How Have You Been Famous?

Andy Warhol said, "In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes."

Because I'm an active person who puts himself out there, I've always been famous in a small way. My thought for tonight is this must be true for all of us to one degree or another.

For example, here I am accepting an "Actor of The Year" Award at W.H. Taft High School:

This event made me famous for 15 minutes among people who cared about drama at that school.

I could cite dozens of other examples: newspaper interviews, opening nights, poetry readings -- there's even an old radio interview I could link to right here, but won't, because the topic is political.

How about you? How have you been famous for 15 minutes within a small circle, i.e. that big wedding, Prom Queen, winning an award at the County Fair, etc.

Great topic. After an especially insane, bummer of a day yesterday, I especially enjoyed reading all of these posts this morning. Started my day out with a smile ... yep - I've definitely had my '15 minutes of fame' more than once -- mostly in a good way. :)

I was on the television news once for being interviewed for a question about the space program. That was when I was 11 years old and I felt so important. I rushed home to watch myself on the broadcast that night.

Another media star in our midst! Were you optioned by MGM? Seems to me a woman of your stature should be on the news every night. I know I'd watch !!!

Happy Sunday !

I was on the news once because a plane crashed into my neighbor's house and I was an eye witness. Also, I once helped capture a shoplifter. The mall cops were chasing him and I was walking down the mall. I am very short (only 5' tall) and apparently the shoplifter was very tall and was running and looking ahead of him, didn't see me, ran me down and fell over me. That's when the mall cops were able to arrest him. those are my 15 minutes of fame.

Oh my goodness this is horrible. What a thing to see. One time we had a fire next door at 3:00 am. Looked like arson to me.

Maybe you can count this in the category "always a bridesmaid, never a bride". I won 2nd place in the American Legion Essay Contest in 4th grade, and I won 1st runner-up in my home town beauty pageant.

When you add two second-place awards together, this means you finished first.

Nothing like being on the tube for an ego boost. Remember the time w/ H'wood High Drama Workshop a group of us performed Robert Nathan's "Morning In Iowa" on ABC on a Sunday morning. Nathan was the author of "A Portrait of Jenny" and the coolest part was visiting his home in the H'wood Hills. Still have the autographed copy.
