Any Nanawrimo writers?

This is the official novel writing month designated by nanowrimo.org. - November. During this month thousands of writers from all over the world will try to complete a novel of 50,000 words in 30 days. It is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing and it's free.

An award certificate is given on completion and the satisfaction of having attained one's goal is tremendous.

I belong to the Upstate group for support and combined with the daily pep-talks from the org. keep on course.

One of the best known novels to have been written initially and posted up on nanowrimo is Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.

I have participated and successfully written 5 novels the past 5 years. Unfortunately, this month is filled with personal activities for me, including a wedding and some other family matters. So I made the decision to skip this NaNoWriMo challenge. I will be at it again next year with full zeal. Even the world's greatest writers took a year of two off between books. I noticed Dan Brown relished in his fame for well over 5 years before his latest publication.

Wow to finish a novel in a month is pressure.
But it is a very good thing to keep informed and know what's out there!
This site cetainly has a wealth of interesting posts to open a wirter's eyes to what is going on out there.

Thanks Daffodil for the post and link.

I did NaNo for three years but I decided to sit this year out. I have too much going on and don't have the time to devote this year. Good luck to all of those out there. NaNo is a test and a challenge. Didn't realize that Water for Elephants was a NaNo novel. That's really encouraging to hear.

I too did it last year but I'm skipping it now because can't do too many things. They will all suffer and I do want to get back to editing my two books that have been hanging for some time now. My daughter tells me if I don't do this she won't talk to me anymore LOL !!!

50,000 words in a month? That can be project, does that include the editing? :)

NO It does not include the editing. You can edit your manuscript after November. Here is a page from the site that tells you about life after November 30th and what is offered to those who want to edit and publish.

I haven't participated in the past because I don't write that fast. However, this year, I'm doing NaNoTRYMo with the Pikes Peak Writers, where we try to make as much progress as we can on an existing Work-in-Progress during the month of November and report on that progress to each other. I'm trying to add 20k words to the rough draft of a manuscript that I had already written 20k words for. That goal is doable, I hope! Good luck to everyone doing the real NaNoWriMo!
