Anyone Know What a "Chippy" is?
I was watching one of those old TCM movies yesterday and the word "chippy" kept coming up with regard to a woman Van Johnson was dating. I had never heard that before. Anyone know what a "chippy" is?
And this is why the other gals call them names... they feel threatened by the chippy etc girls.. because the guys want a chippy, not a Mom.

You're right about the double standard. A gal who sleeps around is a slut.........a guy is a stud. Quite a different connotation.

Maybe now that we're older and wiser, yes. But when we were back at school, high school or college.....the girl who slept around was made fun of and called names and snickered about, but the jock who bonked every cheerleader on the squad was his pals' hero.

I knew the word chippy was an old English word connoting a prostitute...
But the American word chippy also meant feeling 'chippy'-- happy, cheerful, almost chirping like a bird.
Maybe chippy refers to payment. Who knows maybe a 'chip' was the amount paid in those long ago and far away days!
