Social contracts

I was watching something on TV the other night and there was some talk about 'social contracts'. These are the unwritten contracts between you and your friends. The basic social contract includes things like this; I have a situation that I believe will end badly; my friend says that things will be fine (even though they most likely will not). Or my friend has done something that is probably the wrong thing to do but I say that it isn't THAT bad, even though it probably is.

I never really thought about it, but if you consider that you won't do those things, generally speaking, for people who are not your friends, there may be something to it. Dang...I wonder what other contracts I have that I don't know about.

Interesting. My social skills seem to be diminishing by the day thus.rendering all contracts fleeting to none--with most humans but not family or my cat.

Good point gracie1953. I do have unwritten 'social contracts' with my pets as well, just never really thought of it that way.

I have a contract with my cat. When I feed her she stops meowing. When climbs on my lap and stares at me I let her outside. When she knocks on the door I let her in. In turn she give me kittly massages and entertains my visitors.

Unwritten, unsigned contracts are not worth the paper they're written on.

Ah Baxtor:

They used to be. You could "sign" a deal with handshake and be pretty sure it would be carried out. Nowadays, all bets are off.
