Well, Duke came with his name, I wanted to change it, but Can wanted to keep it,,, so it stayed Duke.
Harley was named for the Kathy Matthea sound about the lost son of a hippy couple who they named Harley. Harley's shelter name was Kiwi.
Can came up with Molly out of thin air as we were trying to rename her from persimmon. Molly had bright orange fur, so the Irish idea caught on.

When Ciaran came along - originally named Logan, Can looked up irish names on the web and founf Ciaran, which roughly translates to Dark one, which as a tuxedo, he is≥

Shala's name came from my head. We had the two so I picked names that sounded alike...Shala and Kala.

Currently I have 4 cats and 3 dogs. My cats names are Sooshi, because she is a part-Siamese, and has an oriental look. She is a Humane Society Special. Then there is Smootch, a wild cat from woods across the street. He got his name because when I fed him, he liked to smootch with me. He looks much like a Siberian cat, so his name on his health record is Vodka. Cat # 3 is supposed to be a visitor with us, until my young teenage daughter returns from Hawaii in a few years. She named her cat Zena, appropriately so, because next to your cat, Janay, she is the most beautiful cat I have seen, and a real princess! Cat # 4 is a rescue we got recently because we couldn't find a home for her. I named her Katie, because my next-door-neighbor, Cathy, brought her to me and said "it's just for a few days, until she gets better." So I named her after Cathy.
My dogs names are Phenix; she is an Aussie, and we named her after the city where we lived when we got her 12 years ago. Schatzi is the German word for "treasure", and she is the sweetest, biggest dog I have; a little tiny dog when she arrived on our doorstep. A Treeing Walker Hound mix. And finally Zena-dog, whom we rescued from the garage of an empty house. She is a Dalmation/Pitbull mix and completely deaf. She is gorgeous and I thought of her as a little princess, after we cleaned her up. That, incidentally was before we got Zena, the cat.!
