I am not so big on the green thing and just treat it as a benefit to being smarter about how we live. I am more interested in getting off the oil dependency. To much of our national wealth is going toward people who want us gone. As a country we should be doing everything possible to not allow this to happen. Solar would be a great answer if they can make it more efficient. The last time I checked, the best solar panels only collect 16% of the sun's energy. Just think how much energy could be generated if it was 50% and how that could change our appraoch to energy usage. I know we have the innovators in the US, we just have to hope they are successful and the first to be so.

Hershman - "A practical green thing for all.....Home Depot among others, offers the curly tube light bulbs for a low price now.....they use less energy, help the environment, etc., and basically SAVE THE HOMEOWNER MONEY.....while helping the environment.....THAT to me is green....."

How does selling light bulbs that can't be disposed of (because they contain mercury) help the environment?

Oh, wait - I get it - you can't throw them away so that keeps them out of the landfills...

I am not to excited about solar wxcept at the micro level heating a fw homes or just hot aterI cannot see it being effective for large scale energy use.(at lest fron what I have read. knoe thre are exception to that i am a believer in knitting to gether lots o small hings to achieve the result. A nw development here has the ability to sepaeate grey water and rain useusin both in th sprinkler system and I think washing clothes. they also put in all those long term curly lightbilbs a few homes have solar panels but the made the develpment homes to face south and with a slight overhang foe wintr. they offereed a blacktil at the fron to absorb heat (remember the maine cold as heck winters. All have insulated curtains double thick glass with argon gas between the window panes our home hasincorporated some of these things did not cost a lot and has saved us on fuel. (our big problem is home faces northeast. so little sun and hit by winds we aso put in cieling fans to keep heat down an it does a great job cooling in summer.)
