Childhood Board Games...Your Move..

Writing a string from "Your Move... I was thinking of family games and families, Once Upon A Time.

My father was the one who taught us board games such as checkers, dominos. He was a whiz with dominos. I tried my best to beat the man when we played board games. He knew the game by what was out in his hand and bluffing us. LOL

I was caught with big six most of the times. LOL He had the "Points" and I had the dominos. Dad had me pulling
dominos. He finally told me what to do and how to keep in my head what was out and possibilities what the other
person(s) could be holding in his/her hands. He knew the strategy of many plans. Not only games but life.

Checkers, Oh ,it seems simple at my age at that time, the first move can very well give your opponent the game. Problem solvings can begin early in life. If we teach children and help them to understand what he/she really are doing. stratedies of games.

Years later, after marriage, my husband and I begin planning
other board games, Scrbble, Gin Rummy ( cards) Chinese checkers and parchise, etc. The two of us had a lot of fun. He was what I called a"Poor loser" If I win, we had to continued to play until he "Thought" smile, he had won, or maybe he let me win to go to bed.

My children was taught to play board games as well. I then had to turn the tv off for a family night of games, reading.
I see that their children play games. they too have a family game night. I don't think it is as often as it used to be because of homework, After school events and other activities than it was years ago. After school activities
I didn't have, such as plays, unless it derived seasonally from our church. I could have been involved with sports, but my choice. Basketball I was fast on my feet but short, and ashame to be wearing shorts. LOL. I'm thinking they have more to often today than when I grew up as a southern girl. Church, daily new, radio and then tv, school, chores and reading took up my time as a child. Most of what we are and decided to pull into our own life we were taught from our child hood or dropped from our adult life.

I'm sure we are all ages here in AA+ with many back grounds as we grew up and carried over in our families. It would be interest to hear about some of the things your parents taught you that is part of your life and children life styles.

I'm thinking of games,and whatever.

We played board games. Some of my favorites: scrabble, pokeno, mille bournes, boggle. Hooliday dinners at oour house usually ended in a game of Pokeno. It was the kind of game the youngest could play. We'd play for pennies and after the game was over, we'd put all the pennies back in the big jar my mom kept in the buffet. I haven't looked in a while, but I bet that jar of pennies is still there.

My favorite board game was Monopoly, although i lost most of the time.
I like trivial pursuit as an adult.
But I always liked twister, for a whole lot of reasons.

Backgammon for me, but my very favorite games didn't involve boards, it was jacks and marbles and jump rope--double dutch! My parents (I think it was a military thing), taught me to play poker after I mastered Old Maids, lol.....then came BINGO and at age 13, Chess. But I ended up loving reading books more by the time I was 15. Now as an adult when my friends and I get together, we always end up playing Backgammon or Pokeno.

Yes, Pokeno was my favorite board games; me and my friends and my mom's friends use to get together and play once a week....and we would take turns having the games at one another houses and fix the food for that night....I miss those nights; this was about 11 years ago; then the ladies started loosing interest in the games....we use to play for pennies...as a child; jacks and jump rope was my favorite thing to do....riding bikes and going to the neighborhood park and take our sack lunches to the park....I thought Monopoly was so- so boring....I could not sit that long and play monopoly....I loved Bingo and old maid....have a nice evening.
