A Turkey who Thinks He's A Dog

Have you ever met a turkey who thought he was a pet dog. If not, you have now. This is "Tom" our turkey who wants to go everywhere on the farm we and our dog, Dixie go. This is a picture of my husband, my son, his two children, our dog, Dixie and, of course, Tom, the turkey. They have all been for a 'walk/ride' down our drive.

Sunny, What a great picture. That's quite a bird/dog you have there! Your son looks so much like his Dad.
So those are the grandchildren I've heard about. They look like they can keep you hopping. Grandbabies are so special, treasure your moments with them- they grow up so fast. :)

Cute entourage. I hope Tom is dinner-candidate free!

We just got home from the local area Bird Mart. We brought home a new family member - something I hadn't planned on doing. But I have a weakness for rare varieties from the world of parrots and today we encountered one that I didn't think was obtainable anywhere. It's a black parrot that's native to the island of Madagascar - called a Greater Vasa Parrot.
I'd seen a few of them at bird marts in the Los Angeles area along about the late 80s, but figured they were all but gone from the pet trade. They're not real showy like other parrots and they don't have a reputation for "talking". With those two strikes against them as far as pet appeal, well, suffice it to say that we haven't seen one for sale for at least 20 years. Until today, that is.
This one's still a baby at only 6 or 7 months. He's still clumsy and baby-like in his actions and he liked cuddling with me when I got to handle him at the show. As smitten as I was, I couldn't put him out of my head. We toured the whole show - bought a few toys and things for our two birds and then walked out to the car. Heh - I couldn't start the car. We sat there for 15 minutes, trying to rationalize spending as much as we did for this guy. It's only money. Besides, the wife wanted him as bad as I did.
After rationalizing as best we could, I went back and became his new owner. I'll post a picture of him later. He's a sweetie. No name yet.

Arcade - congratulations to the new 'papa.' Sounds like a beauty and a rare find. Keep us up on how the other birds accept him, and his progress.

Sunny

By the way, Tom doesn't have to worry about the Thanksgiving meal!
