November Welcome

Hello!

This month the holiday season kicks off. This can be a difficult time for some of our singles. Remember, you are not alone, even if you do live alone.

The members at the other end of this connection are also single, and will in some way identify with whatever you are feeling. And the beauty of the internet is that at any time of the day or night, without leaving the safety and warmth of your home, you'll find someone to connect with.

As for the upside for singles and holidays, I hope everyone finds a way to celebrate their gift of life and feel some joy in that gift! Keep your holidays as simple or as elaborate as feels right for you. And always remember that we are at our best when we take the time for a kind word or deed to others, so be open to the little things we can do to make this world a more decent place for one another....volunteering, recycling, taking a moment to send an encouraging email, feeding a friend's pet while they travel. There are a million and one little ways to give back and you receive much more than you give almost every time!

So keep warm this November, try to get through the holidays without increasing your debt, and let's have fun together here when we're online! Thanks for being part of our group!

I can relate to the being alone for the holidays....and yes it can be hard to deal with. I would also like to say that eons has helped me through a lot of tough times....not only the holidays but other times as well. I have some wonderful friends here....some I've met in person...some I have not....yet.

If anyone needs to talk at any time.....please feel free to send me a pm.....we can chat all night if needed.

I have always dealt with being alone on the holidays pretty well. The introduction of the internet has made it easier. I do long to have a special someone to share my time with, not just at the holidays but on a regular basis. It just becomes more evident during the holidays. The focus of what you see on tv and other media becomes food and family oriented.
I have been very fortunate that in past years I have been able to spend time with my internet friends and every once in while in person with my internet friends. I am not sure what is going to happen for Thanksgiving this year. I suspect I will find a place to enjoy a turkey dinner with. I might find a food kitchen and help serve to those less fortunate than myself. I know this year I am not going to spend it alone. The christmas/chanukah season (also my birthday is in there) will not be spent alone. My meetup group has already been talking about getting together, I reminded them that my birthday is at that time so we have lots to celebrate. (I turn 60 this year, woooohoooooooooo). One of my meetup friends has said she is holding a New Years Eve party at her house so now I have that to look forward to.

Be open to new experiences. There are lots of good ideas here among our members. Just ask and I am sure we can give you a few good ideas on how and where to celebrate the holidays. You do not have to be alone.

GlamDiva called Alaska this morning! She's going to be online on Monday, will accept the moderator position, and was a joy to talk to! I think that was her first call to/from Alaska, and it was my first one from Chicago.

Isn't the internet amazing in how it joins us together if we'll just let it?

I hope everyone finds what works best for them over the holidays. This year I have ordered
Red Skelton dvds and Lighthearted Laughter to watch and so I will celebrate with laughter. It will be good to see Clem Kadiddlehopper, Sheriff Deadeye and Freddie the Freeloader ( for those who are
old enough to remember).

This year I'll be so busy with social club and clubhouse activities that I may not even put a tree up. Of course, I need to consider the fact that I now have a young cat in the house who would probably destroy a decorated tree!! I can still do lights and silk flowers.

This will be my first holidays alone in 21 years, I get misty eyed thinking about it. I will be working both Thanksgiving and Christmas to pass the time. Nothing worse than sitting home alone. I'll try to spend some time with my boys, but things will never be the same. My sons come over on weekends to spend time, but it is so weird. It would be one thing if they were just older, like my oldest boy, he's married. My youngest 3 still live at home and I miss seeing them every day. I could keep writing on and on, but alas, I'm at work. I know so many of you have probably gone through this, sometimes I feel like a wimp and say to myself, stop complaining, but at other times I cry foul and say no fair. Oh well, thanks for letting me vent.

Good morning badge95 and welcome to AES. This is a wonderful group of people and you can have more people to talk to during the holidays than you can count if you want them. Feel free to jump in and join in on any topic going on or start your own. I know the holidays can be long, lonely and depressing, so just remember, you can always find someone to chat with on line...

Good morning and welcome to all of our new members! This is indeed a good group of individuals who actively participate and whose opinions are most enlightening and always interesting to read. The different perspectives are just representative of the diversity of our steadily growing group, and that's great! HB, your previous comments were most gracious - Thank you! - and I'm indeed enjoying being a part of AES.

Here's wishing you all a wonderful holiday season!
