Happy Ending.

Hi everyone,

We're going to a niece's wedding on Saturday. It's a "Black and White" wedding in the late afternoon, very dressy. The dress I wore to my daughter, Becky's, wedding in 2005 is just perfect - not actually black and white - but black with soft green underlay for the lace bodice. And I've lost 25 pounds which is about ten pounds less than I was when I bought it. The dress wasn't in any of the closets and I figured that it was in a plastic container in the loft in the garage.

I finally got Jack to get the ladder off the garage roof. Now, you may wonder why the ladder was on the ROOF. Jack and Heather needed it to get up on the second story roof to clear some broken branches off that roof. Come on, everyone, it's never easy.

Anyway, Thursday night, Heather was looking for a Halloween costume for work. So, while she was up there, she looked quickly for the dress in a couple containers with no success. Not satisfied, I climbed up to double check. The dress wasn't found but my winter turtlenecks and other winter clothes were liberated from the loft to be placed in my drawers and closet. My search for the dress was cut short mostly because Jack wanted me to hurry down from the ladder. He's always skeptical about me climbing around in the loft twelve feet above the cement garage floor. In fact, years ago on an early fall school day morning, with the weather dictating the need forscarves, mittens and jackets for the various and sundry kiddies, I asked Jack to get the storage containers down before leaving for work. He declined the request promising to do it when he got home. Not happy with the response, I naturally headed out for the garage as soon as the front door shut, set up the ladder and proceeded to climb up to the loft. Now, it's important to understand that the loft is located in the area directly above where the garage door goes when the door is lifted. Of course the door is LONGER than the depth of the loft. Hold that piece of information in mind for a moment. Back to Jack. As he got into the car, he saw me climbing up the ladder, impatiently got out of the car, flung up the garage door and to my utter dismay sent me flying off the ladder! Luckily I was padded enough so that there were no serious injuries to my body only stupefied indignation on my part.

So given that history, it's no surprise that this afternoon when Jack headed upstairs for something or other, I headed out to the garage to continue my investigation of the containers cached away in the loft. A search of four or five closer containers revealed a mini-stash of forgotten fabrics but no dress. Hmmmm upholstery remnants. Perfect for a tote! Great read oriental fabric. Nice blue tone on tone. Cool! Polar fleece stuffed cat panel! Fabrics started raining down to the love seat below. Happy day! You may wonder why we have a love seat in the garage. There is also a sofa. They are both waiting to be collected from the non-ladder side of the garage by daughter number six, Elizabeth.

Noticing three or so more boxes just out of reach, I climbed down the ladder, grabbed the hoe and mounted the ladder again. The hoe worked beautifully for maneuvering the remaining boxes close enough to be examined. No dress. However, I did manage to place a container of summer tops safely up in the loft. I could only conclude that the dress has been given to the Salvation Army when I had dispaired of ever fitting into it again.

Disappointed, I initiated my final descent from the loft. My feet hit the garage floor to the sound of Jack's voice calling, "Ginny, are you climbing up in the loft?" to which question I truthfully replied, "No, I'm not up there now." Jack, not lacking gray matter by any means, easily surmised where I HAD been.

Disappointed that my lovely and pricey dress was gracing the racks of the Salvation Army, I resigned myself to a Sunday shopping trip and got ready for visiting the various kids' homes to see the grandchildren's Halloween costumes. Telling my tale of woe about the dress to Becky, what did my wondering ears perceive but her voice saying, "Oh, I have the dress in my closet. I tried it on to wear for Jeannine's wedding." Of course that was two years ago but I didn't care. I have the dress and I don't have to go shopping for a dress that I probably won't wear again.

Ginny, I am happy you found your dress. I hope you had nice weather for the wedding. Although the weather map looked a little wet. Your notes are always full of adventure and I don't know where you find the energy. I am glad you found that fabric in the garage it is so lovely when you find a treasure you had forgotten about. I often stick money in my jacket pockets during the winter and forget about it being there. Then in the fall it is like a nice little gift when you reach in that pocket and pull out a dollar or two. I hope you are feeling better, I can't wait to read your next note.

I tried the dress on this morning along with my super sucker. Halloween played havoc with my "food plan" and the dress was a bit snug around the middle - usually my smallest part. Anyway, I've been a very good girl today and plan on continuing the good behavior until the wedding.

I think I forgot that I was actually 5 pounds LIGHTER than I am now at Becky's wedding. And with Halloween, it's actually only 20 pounds that I've lost. Serve me right for stepping on the scale this morning. Who can keep track of the weight roller coaster anyway?

That weight roller coaster is why I make quilts. No matter how long it takes to make a quilt, it always fits when it is done. :-)

My roller coaster keeps on climbing, sure would like to get on the other side....guess I would have to get off my.........er chair, and on the walking path for that to happen.

What I want to know is, does that super sucker cut your breath off, Ginny? How you gonna boogie with big daddy with that thing on?
