"Are any of you aware of the fact that Mary, Mother of Jesus, is mentioned more times in the Qur'an than in the Bible?" vamunchkin

Considering that a huge portion of the Bible was written before the birth of Mary and the Qu'ran was written after the death of Mary; that one of Mohammed's goals was to convert Christians and Jews to Islam, I don't find that surprising at all.

I have never read the Quran so I am not aware of its contents. Is it true that the Quran reflects many of the same stories and teachings of the Old Testament?

The Quran stories show strong influence from the agnostic movement of the time - Muhammad must have been much more familiar with those writings than the actual bible as we know it today. The Quran is much more difficult to read than the Bible because it is not in story or chronological order but rather ordered by size of the section of scripture.

Muslim; is a religion of love? What if we all convert to Islam? Wouldn't the world be a better place? Why did the American Indians lost their land? Was it because they were divided and fighting among themselves? With Christianity there are too many divisions: Catholics, protestants and their many derivatives. With Muslims is just Muslims. It could be quite possible that Sahria law could be implemented here in the U.S. After all we elected a Muslim at heart president; and had said many times that we are not a Christian nation.

Because the Christians had the Bible, the Muslims had to have a book of their own; The Quran is nothing but a negative spin on the Bible.

Just as general information, there are several Muslim sects, the Sunni and the Shea - there difference goes back to who was the true successor of Mohammad. In additional, their are fundamentalists in both sects - so Islam isn't just one big homogeneous religion.

Thank you for that insight; I stand corrected.

Ah but what about the divisions within the sects? Whabbists are the majority of militant Muslims and are the sect the Saudi Royals belong to as well as Osama and his crew! As for the Koran it is Muhammad’s way of legitimizing his distorted beliefs (as a megalomaniac pedophile) and to gain influence over the Jews and Christians for the purpose of converting them, as any good cult would do! If you are going to make a counterfeit it has to be as close to the real thing as possible to get by!

I have read the entire Koran and have some observations on that issue. There are people mentioned in it who are also mentioned in the OT/NT. Narrative writing is almost nonexistent in the Koran, that is, stories that cover a chronological time period and come to a conclusion. It is a very different type of writing.
I read and read and waited for some type of narrative story, got to the end of it and had not read a single one.
My impression of it was that of some 400 pages, if you took 10 pages and read them over and over until you had read 400 pages, you would have read the same thing as reading all 400 pages.

Has anyone else read it, and what is your opinion?
