Friend In Need

I have a friend in her 70's in Port Angeles, Washington, who is going to be needing a very inexpensive place to live. Right now she is shivering in another friend's garage, but the house is going on the market and she will be homeless. She uses a breathing machine at night so she needs electricity. Her friend where she's been staying is in her 80's and will probably go into assisted living, so my dear friend won't have any where to turn. She doesn't feel she can travel far and hopes to stay in the Port Angeles area, otherwise I would try and talk her into coming and staying with me. She doesn't think she could take the summers here though (SE AZ).
If anyone knows anyone who might be able to help this sweet soul, please private email me. Thanks a bunch.

I would think that folks couldn't take the cold as easily as the heat. In fact, I live in the Mojave Desert and thought the heat was THE worst. Wrong. That cold comes and I'm wishing for the heat. I used to live in Washington. I now live in Southern California, with my oldest daughter, and love the heat. I hope your friend finds a place. I will keep her in my prayers.

I will also keep your friend in my prayers--whatever and whereever is for her highest good. I find these situational living issues of the folks in our great country just sad---------where is the old adage---Take care of everyone--brother's keeper---do unto other's as you would like done to you-------HELP!!!

I surely hope she finds a place too. It's very sad.
Not tooting anyone's horn, but I have a daughter that takes anyone (well ones that she knows) in when they are in need. She had a woman and son live with her for a month or so because they couldn't pay the utilities and was about to loose her house, then it wasn't even a week after they moved out she took another family of 4 in because they couldn't pay the utilities. They are still over there. She has a big doublewide trailor, but also has 4 in her family and sometimes 5 when her step son visits.
ME it would drive crazy, but seems it's her calling. Everyone has a certain thing they're good at. This seems to be hers. I surely hope someone will take this lady in and give her a hand up, it's so sad to know she has no place with her in the condition she's in especially.

Oh by the way, can't she go into assisted living or sensiors housing there?

Bamasmom, we take in people too. Right now though, our travel trailer needs a new toilet and septic system. I'll suggest senior housing to her. I don't think she'd qualify for assisted living yet.
Thanks for the suggestions and prayers.

SpiritSeeker,
My mom lives in senior housing, and there is a real wait for these apartments now, because people have been choosing them over the past few years. BUT, what you need to do is contact your Senior Citizens Center and ask who is the Social Worker who can help this lady with "Special Needs". They will come and see her situation right away. When my mom was being abused, we contacted senior social services, and they got her out and into the apartments within 3 days. They always hold back an apartment or 2 for this type of case. Otherwise, she will go on the long waiting list, and has to get "voted on" by the board to be placed. People will see the person being interviewed, and they go to the Administrator and say they don't want the person in because . . . maybe she is a busy body, and they get voted down. People will say anything because they personally don't like her, or they are jealous. This way, through social services, she never has to go to the office to fill out the form, no one sees her, and she bypasses the waiting list and board vote. Social services needs to see her situation immediately. May God bless her and keep her and make his light shine upon her.

She might be eligible herself for assisted living -- at least transitional housing until they can get her into a permanent living situation. With her age and medical needs, she should be given priority. A seniors advocacy group should be able to help her as well as the community services organizations listed above. Her need is crisis and she should go to the top of the list. Barb's suggestion is a very good place to start.

She is fortunate to have someone like you looking out for her welfare.
