Binding the Light - Chapter 1
In the quiet court of Heaven God looked into every Face.
“This is what I need,” He went quiet for a moment while His eyes filled and He lifted a mighty Hand of Power to dash one burning tear about to fall, “I need a darkness so deep it will quench the hearts of all. I need Pain so wrenching it will tear bodies apart, render minds senseless.”
“But why, Lord?” One hushed voice whispered. “I thought you created these beings in discovery of Your incandescent Love!”
“Yes, and so I did.” God glanced down, then turned to His angels and archangels once more. “But I see they do not believe in Me. They revel in their choices to hold me off from their lives. They seem strangely comforted in feeling far less than My Creations. They choose to disembody Me by not accepting that I Am the embodiment of All That Is.
With this, He looked up. “So! Who will do this for Me?”
Without hesitation, Lucifer stepped forward. “Choose me, Lord. I will become Your Dark.”
“Ah,” said God with a groan. “Angel of my brightest thought, spark of all our Souls, you would carry this burden? You will be reviled, befouled, the embodiment of devouring and hate.”
“Yes,” Lucifer answered simply. “All of that, if You will only remember through it all how much I love You, I will do this.”
The angels and archangels brought their wings forward, covering their bright faces. With a thrumming noise, vibrating the very Court of God, they bent to one knee…all save one.
God raised His hands, letting tears freely fall. He bound His brilliant Archangel of Light into darkness so black that the breath of Heaven was sucked into its void. And as His very throne seemed about to be swallowed up, loyal Michael snapped up with a roar. Pulling a fiery sword, Michael pierced Archangel Lucifer who reeled backward, bleeding Light from a wound that might never heal, and fell toward blue Earth.
His shadow swept once ‘round the planet, then seemed to settle in. One by one hearts darkened, souls twinkled where before they had shone unbridled. Yet some hearts burned in glee.
