Interesting to me...
I wanted to ask for some other opinions on this:
Why is it that there has been so little comment, if any, on the 15 year old child that was raped for over two hours, at her homecoming dance, by about 10 perps, as approxomately 20 others came and went, some of whom actually stopped to watch and at least one became a participant in the rape. Nobody reported the incident for over 2 and a half hours!
Some of the reasons that have been given for the failure to report the incident include some pretty solid study about the herd affect that influences human behavior. But what does the relative silence say about the rest of us?
How often do we avoid a topic because its too much for us to handle? Should people just move on, knowing that something like this has happened? I tried, but I couldn't shake the thought that, unless there is some divine miraculous event, this child's life is changed FOREVER!!!
The last straw for me was when I heard one man on youTube suggest that since she entered the situation willingly by accepting an offer to drink with the perps, "maybe" she "deserved" to be gang raped! Where is the calvary? I had to ask somebody.
If we can't find a way to deal with incidents like this one, that would explain a lot. I know that, after all is said and done, many of us are probably relieved to know it happened somewhere else in somebody elses neighborhood and it was somebody elses daughter, right? Should our citizens just learn to expect this kind of behavior from our children and other adults?
It also occurred to me that if she were denied an abortion there would be picketing and posturing til the cows come home. Since it was "only" a rape, I assume the virtual silence means that this is less life threatening than an inconvenient childbirth? Weren't this child's rights violated?
What's up with that?
