ACEO Supplies

FYI -- Dick Blick now has artist trading card supplies. Their slogan is "The biggest movement in art is very small." view link Also, I found some desktop frames at Aaron Bros. that fit the 2.5 x 3.5 ACEOs. They have them in two wood colors, black, white and metal. Seems like art suppliers are finally getting with it!

Do they sell ACEO Arches paper as well?

Thanks for the info. I knew about the sets of different kinds of paper for cards, but not about the frames. Never heard of Aaron Bros. Does t have a website? The only brand that Blick has of the trading card sets seems to be Strathmore, not Arches.

Yes, WOT, Dick Blick sells quantities of precut ACEO paper of various kinds for a very reasonable price.

Maineclaire, upon checking, I notice Blick's watercolor papers are only Strathmore which is sub-standard imo. What I do is fold my Arches 140 lb paper and tear into quarters, then eighths horizontally. Then I measure and mark where my ACEOs will go leaving margins around the edges. I paint a row of four and when I'm done, cut them to size in a paper cutter. If you are going to do any amount of ACEOs, its smart to buy an inexpensive paper cutter -- the results are so worth it.

Wonder what they have against Arches?

My teachers have discouraged Strathmore.

Good idea Archer. I have some Arches paper from way back when I was actually taking some watercolor lessons. I tired tearing and cutting to size before paitning. They came out uneven. Thanks for the tip. (Now if I ever get to painting again...)

Wow, some really good time-saving tips here. Time is money, right? lol

I work on as many as a dozen ACEO's or more at a time ..... anyone else work that way?

Thanks for the good information Archer100. That's the way I do it, tooartsey. If I work on only one I'm sure to over work it. I work on one a little then let it dry before working on it again. I use a paper cutter, too. I take a full sheet of Arches. I really prefer Winsor Newton paper because it's whiter and works better for me, but Arches is really tough. Wipe it down on both sides with a wet sponge to remove excess sizing then let it dry. Then I cut it into 12 inch strips to fit my paper cutter. I cut these strips into pieces that are 3x4 inches. I paint on them that size and I don't have to worry about run- back on the back side which we need to keep clean. I keep in mind the trim off as I paint, but paint to the edge so I can take my 2.5x3.5 from the best part.
