Happy Halloween!!

It's a wet yucky Saturday here. I feel bad for the tricker treaters though there are whisperings of the weather clearing up this afternoon. This reminds me of the year when beccah was in elementary school and I made her a bunny costume. It poured that night!!! The thing must have weighed a ton before the night was over. She was one of the sadder looking bunnies out there!! But a trooper

I took a break from quilting to make Rebeccah a hooded cape for halloween this year. She's no longer a kid but I still sew better than her and I don't have to watch her get frustrated with my machine this way. And I don't have to bite my tongue because she refuses to work with a pattern. I'm pleased with the way it came out. JoAnne's was having a sale so I was able to get some really nice brocade for about $5 a yard. It's black with red flowers on the outside and the hood is lined with red with black flowers. All very 19th century!! I'd forgotten how much fun costumes can be!!

So here I sit with all kinds of candy waiting for tricker treaters and for my refridgerator to be delivered, mine died this week in the middle of doing about 8 million things. Finally got out to buy a new one Thursday, the upside - this is a great way to clean out the fridge of old stuff!! I should probably take this time and do something useful with it like work on one of the quilts I've got going!! - Debbie

P.S. I found this great pattern for stuffed bird Christmas ornaments in one of my books. That will probably be my next project after I complete the ones I've got now. They'll make great casual Christmas presents, inspired by the squares I saw here last week. Thanks - Debbie

It sounds like a busy week for you Debbie! And isn't it just like that a busy week and something breaks down that makes life easier. During a drought year in the hottest month our air conditioner gave out. We ended up getting a hotel room for the night.

You will have to post a picture of the cape when completed. Sounds cool!

That's the spirit of a quilter/sewer - another project planned after other UFOs.

Happy Halloween!

Debbie, the red/black hood sounds like a success! You are fortunate to actually be able to sew....

Well, I had a costume I was supposed to 'fix'...I hate it when my family asks me to make alterations just cuz I have a sewing machine and can sew a straight line...as in quilts. I am not a seamstress! After hours of fiddling with the extra long 'fins' on the mermaid costume, the easiest solution was to just use safety pins, LOL.

Today is warm and sunny here, very autumnal. We have become 'bah humbug' about Halloween for quite awhile...we used to own a family pizza shop and were never home on Halloween cuz it was a busy night making pizzas. Now the last 2+ years we just 'hole up', turn off the front light and enjoy quiet time. All my grandkids and their parents are gonna be gone tonite to go trick or treating with friends/family who live a distance away, so hubby and I will have some really quiet time...ahhh the joy of it.

The weather was fairly good here in Montana for trick or treates. I had four.
I like the sound of the stuffed bird ornaments. I think they would be fun to make. Elaine

In Upstate NY, it was sunny until noontime. Then the wind blew up and it was raining pretty hard by late afternoon. This didn't dampen the kids" enthusiasm although their costumes were a little worse for wear. My two year old granddaughter was SO excited having discovered candy. Sugar high wasn't the word for it.

Ginny, you must have gotten the storm that passed through here in Ohio Halloween morning. We had dry but chilly Trick-or-Treat weather here. Low fifties - perfect for running around in hot costumes. (It was 78 on Friday. Typical Ohio valley weather cycle.)

After a slow start, we had around 150 kids this year and, with large handfuls at the end, got rid of all the candy. It always pays to come late to my house. Leftovers are too tempting.

Being in the country on a farm means we only get a very few trick or treaters. This year 3, grand nephews. SOOOOOO cute. Was fine with me as I taught a One Fabric Quilt class all day. Another gal taught a Crazy 8 Jacket. We had a really good time. Everyone brought something for a salad and we enjoyed a lunch together too. We actually got some sewing done too!! When I left for class I told my husband he could cook last night.
So that means he makes reservations-which is more than fine with me. An extra hour of sleep was great too.

So we were watching a news show, i think it was the Early Show on Friday. In the audience outside a woman had a black wig and painted her lips with red lipstick way out. Then she was wearing a baby carrier in front with 8 little baby-heads, some with a pink headband on. Cute, i thought, it'san Octo-mom costume. We were going to a Halloween supper that night so I made him Octo-Dad carrying a sign that said Will Work For Diapers. I will try to post the pic here or my quilt profile. It was funny. Made the little heads from an old nylon cutup and stuffed with batting. I hadn't sewn a costume in a while, so it was my Halloween-fun!
