Of course it applies to our current President, in the sense that his popularity is no indication of his veracity or ability.

I voted for him because:

A) He is intelligent

B) I liked what he said and the things he stood for

C) He seemed sincerely interested in the good of the country, the democratic process, and international reconciliation

It certainly didn't hurt his chances running against a senile boob who is still working on getting his medications sorted out with Sarah in tow. My only wonder about his becoming prez is that the race was as close as it was. I should think he, all things being equal, would have won at least 7 - 3.
