BALI
When I was there,I was given an explanation as to why there was such a disproportioned amount of dancers, musicians, painters, artists etc.
the Royal House of Indonesia had to flee from island to island, southward to escape another religious faction, until they landed in Bali, the southernmost island.
Since they took the Royal Court with them, complete with all the artists, musicians, dancers, architects, painters,etc.etc.,and kept up their old traditions, and handed them down throughout the generations, you have this incredibly peaceful people and all their little temples, beautiful rice plantations,up and down mountains; the tropical flowers, the architecture which blends into nature, and the serenity stemming from deeply spiritual people who truly practice their believes.
Helas the same factions which made them flee are now creeping into their paradise!!
So there you have it
I remember reading a Wayne Dyer book, in the early 90s I think, where he wrote about coming back from Bali and he was hit by the ugly American on the plane back to the US after an unstressed, placid week in Bali. It must be a truly beautiful place.
I just saw a show about Bali on TV. It seemed magnificent. It looked wonderful and serene and beautiful.
Okay, let's all go to Bali! What's a good time for y'all? Oh how I wish!!!
Oh man, I'll go!! I'll go right now! lol.
my bag is packed...i'm ready too...
hi didi,Gina and diva,
The best time is April to October,so we have time to plan for it,and no excuses, and didi,my bags are always packed, professional habit.
Ladies,I looked for something else to tell you about Bali, and found it in the book:"1000 places to see.."
"Bali is vibrant with the theater of dance, prayer, and mystery. The magic of the Balinese spirit stems from a gracious and beautiful people,a mix of Malay,Polynesian,Indian and Chinese, who believe they are the chosen guardians of the Island of the Gods (as Bali is also known),whose hilly terrain is peppered with temples and stepped rice terraces still cultivated by water buffalo, with occasional harvest houses built on stilts.
Many of the towns specialize in age old crafts-Bali's artistic heritage-a significant distinction on an island where art is everywhere and everyone lives to create and embellish as a means of 'making merit' and honoring the Gods."
Absolutely brilliantly describes Bali,and that's why I'm not a travel writer,leave that to others,but I thought I'd share it with you,since I didn't do that Paradise justice.
Now remember,I'm holding you to it,I'll scour "Travelzoo" and we're going in April or May of 2010,no excuses :))))))))
How about if all 30 in our group go to Bali, and by April there will be 100 more and we can charter our own airplane?
Count me in definitely!! :)
O.K. Gina and didi, 3 down,97 to go....
Listen up everybody, make sure your passports are in order!!!
