You gotta see this..

Hello All my wonderful painterly friends! I know I havent been around too much, the heat is finally gone here in SoCal and I've been working my behind off doing other things like earning that paycheck, and cleaning..including my studio. We have a fairly new co-worker at work. Yesterday I played a little joke on my District Manager..He likes his office dark and that always bugged me, so, I sketched a little "cave" pic to tape on his door. Anyway, my new co worker, who'd seen some of my paintings and drawings, said that her brother in law draws too, and she brought in a photo of an ink sketch he did very recently. The importance of this sketch truly amazed me, as her brother in law is 37 years old and quadraplegic from a gunshot. He has minimal use of his hands and cannot hold a pen or brush, but he can hold a clipboard with paper on it. This sketch was done holding the pen with his teeth. She says that it takes him awhile to really get up the urge or the mind set to do a drawing like this, but when he does, he really does them well. I thought you might like to look at this sketch he did with his teeth. I will post it in the photo section labled "Frank Espinosa". I think there's something here and I think this young man has found a way..

I get Christmas cards every year from the mouth and foot painters and I am in awe of the detail in them...not just Christmas card things (stocking, Santa, etc.) but beautiful nativity scenes! Wonderful spirit in these folks!

We have an artist here in Ft. Myers who has no arms but paints with her feet....quite an inspiration.

Joslyn that is great to hear about Frank, I'll go take a look!

It is very inspiring to me to know these people follow their passion to express in art regardless of the physical disabilities. Jane, I also used to get those cards, and I'm so glad there is an outlet like that for them.

Last week I rented the movie "My Left Foot", the true story of Christy Brown, who was born with cerebral palsy, and only his left leg was under his control, with much difficulty. The movie was made in the 80's ... it takes me some time to catch up sometimes :) Highly recommend it if you haven't yet seen it. He produced some beautiful artwork, and also wrote the entire book by typing it with his left foot.

There are also armless musicians who have taught themselves to play instruments beautifully with their feet.

Really makes one stop and think about all the peevish excuses we can make up about why we "can't" create, doesn't it?
