I am really keen on Doris Chan right now. She takes old designs originally done in thread and reinterprets them to fit today as garments. What I really love about her work is that there are few if any seams when you are odne. Her designs are published in the major crochet magazines and 2 books. I have Everyday Crochet. The other book is Amazing Crochet Lace: New Fashions Inspired by Old-Fashioned Lace .
I like the old patterns. I like making infant hats and booties to sell at a little consignment shop in town. I find patterns in the old Work Baskets from the 40's and 50's and newer. And I make a lot of pot holders from the old patterns. I bought some wool recently to experiment with felting. I have the book "Felted Crochet" by Jane Davis that has some nice patterns for bags, pillows, bowls, hats and throws.
Thank you - now I have even more books on my wish list! I like old patterns too. How do you find the old patterns?
Good morning!
I found a pattern book yesterday at Goodwill..........it's Red Heart Baby Talk published in 1986. There's a picture of a baby on the cover wearing a hat/helmut with ear flaps and matching sweater. I'll make the hats in the leaflet. I have found most of my old pattern books/leaflets at antique and second hand stores. The old work baskets are interesting with recipes, plant advice, patterns, some still have the iron on patterns for embroidery and the ads are fun to see too!
