My opinion too.

See inside....this has political implications...if you don't appreciate politics or have a patriotic bone in your body, ignore this post.

This may be a repeat.....but is worth re-visiting.

Andy Rooney said on '60 Minutes' a few weeks back:

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens.Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.
Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, which is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING, MARTHA BURKE ?
I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.
I have the right 'NOT' to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.
When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling; it is the Law of Probability.
I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.
I think the police should have every right to shoot you if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word 'freeze' or 'stop' in English, see the above lines.
I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.
We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.
I don't hate the rich; I don't pity the poor. I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television.. That doesn't stop you from watching them.
I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building.
It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say 'NO!'
I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!
I am sick of 'Political Correctness.' I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa ; so how can they be 'African-Americans'? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe.. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else.
And if you don't like my point of view, tough .
I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG, OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA , AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

I know some may think I'm a bit biased in my agreeing with J, but how many of us truly do not believe every word written in his post. I don't know about you all, but I would like to know who came up with politically correct and who gets to decide what is and what isn't?, and why them and not me or you? What ever happened to right is right and wrong is wrong? Do we really need Albert Einstein to tell us the meaning of each? Okay, that's all I have for now..

Ok, TW...I didn't check Snopes on this, but it did sound like something that Andy would have said....but since he didn't claim credit....I will..

No, it really sounds nothing like what Andy Rooney would say. He even says, "Some of the remarks, which I will not repeat here, are viciously racist and the spirit of the whole thing is nasty, mean and totally inconsistent with my philosophy of life".

I am not sure I would want to claim these words but then I guess some might.

Although much in that statement is politically incorrect, nothing there is racist. Of course those who see racism in everything would disagree, but this Puerto Rican son and grandson of Russian immigrants has seen the best America has to offer and finds that simple logic is consistence with my philosophy of life. I am not blinded by political correctness or irrational pandering. Show me where a United Caucasian College fund would be as welcome as UNCF and I'll join in your dissent. Or a White Congressional Caucus. If we are on the path to racial and gender equality, then we need to dispense with labels and segregation. If it is you who support segregated organizations, then you are part of the problem...not those who find them antithetical to peace and prosperity for all.

I, for one, do not "believe every word" in the post.

We don't need a Caucasian College fund because so many of the scholarships and other funds have gone to support whites. There are grants for people with Polish last names and scholarships for red-headed women who are 5'2" tall and all sorts of funds like that. Having spent years combing resources like that for myself and my daughter, there are are plenty that would not be open to a black person. You'd have to understand the history behind the establishment of the fund to understand the good work it has done and will do in the future.

Most white people are clueless regarding the inequities in our country. And before you start yammering about bleeding heart liberal, I hear that all the time - from conservatives, while the liberals bash me for being conservative. (rolls eyes)

We don't need a white congressional caucus for the same reason - the congress is predominantly white. Its hard to see if you are a member of the dominant and privileged society, but America is not and never has been a non-racist and egalitarian society.

We are only a small way along the path to gender and racial equality. In fact, we may never get there. In the next 50 years America will become predominantly non-white and then we'll hear the squeals from from the minority whites. It will eventually become minority Christian as well as Buddhists, neo-Pagans, Hindu and many other belief systems grow. None of us will be around, but our grandkids will and, quite frankly, we need to consider how we treat others.

In point of fact, one must learn English to become an American citizen and Andy Rooney would never be dim witted enough to make that mistake. Further, one can be born an American citizen and never speak English at all and that is acceptable unless we're going to start stripping citizenship from people who are born, live, and die here and never speak English. Further, if one is deaf one never hears English not stopping because they can't understand English does not justify shooting someone to death. What utter hogwash.

Further, I went to law school with any number of Africans who are also African American and I work and associate with many Africans who live in America. This is yet another distortion.

In point of fact, our constitution is largely considered a living document. I consider it to be such and probably the majority of constitutional scholars believe that the only way the constitution can be a viable document is to consider it as a living document and not a fossil. While I find Justice Scalia the most brilliant legal mind on SCOTUS (at present) I profoundly disagree with his stance on constitutional interpretation. I'd love to have lunch with him someday, but he'd undoubtedly be a tough cookie to have a discussion with.

So, no, I don't agree with this. The writing is poor, twisted, distorted, and engenders disharmony.

Lastly, what the dickins is this doing in an available singles forum? What does it have to do with finding a date?

JSant, are you trying to prove your support of this false commentary tp me or Andy Rooney? I only quoted his response to an internet lie that used his name. This is one of those cases of internet fallacies being spread by someone who panders to irrational propaganda.

You need to talk to Andy.

Since you don't post often in this group, perhaps you have missed the post about opening this group up to current events, politics and other topics of interest with appropriate disclaimers. You are, indeed, entitled to your point of view....I take a more positive appraisal at our society...that we are not better off with segregated groups.....that we are all afforded the same opportunities in life should we avail ourselves of them. That this country is only racially divided by continually escalating stupid actions and words beyond their inherent impact. Is it harmonious to dismiss the words and actions of black racists like Sharpton, Lamont Hill and Jackson while berating Imus, Limbaugh and Joe Wilson? The issue is not whether we need comparative white groups...but that, in an era when we seek equality, segregating certain aspects of our government or society into racial groupings is something desirable. You state that "Most white people are clueless regarding the inequities in our country"...would the obverse of that be that "Most minorities are clueless regarding the equities in our country"...or would that be politically incorrect also?

No, TW pointed out that he did not say this, but the message was one that I identified with and have no problem linking to my avatar. I believe that the vast majority of Americans are honest, decent, honorable and compassionate, not the greedy, capitalistic, racist, anti change mob as portrayed by many on the left. My glass is more than half full.....others are free to define their own perspective.
