La Vie en Rose

Did anyone else see this? I've heard critical acclaim for this movie and rented it from the local library. Has subtitles. Powerful film about French singer Edith Piaf's (sparrow) tragic life.

Piaf had such a hideous young life and was discovered by fluke while singing on the streets for change. Not a fun movie but very well done.

Oh, I don't speak French so I had to translate the title on Babelfish. The title is the name of a famous song and translates "Bed of Roses."

I saw it during the summer. OMG. What a life! It was almost an ugly movie, but, yes, very memorable performances. The actress who played Piaf was amazing. I forgot I was watching a movie--felt caught up in the tragedy of her life, and tragic it was.

I knew it was gut wrenching so stayed away from it at the time.
The actress Marion Cotillard also played opposite Johnny Depp in Public Enemies

I have it in my Netflix Queue, or I can watch it on my computer.

I was under the impression "vie" translates as "Life"?

I have no idea. Here's another translation that came up on google:

Question
I received a painting from an anonymous person and the only message is "LA VIE EN ROSE" What does this translate to in english? Thank you.

Answer
Hi!

"La vie en rose" translates in "Life in Pink". It's an expression that means that life is beautiful. I guess in English, it would be something like "the beautiful life" or something like that.

The whole expression is "voir la vie en rose" ("to see life in pink"), which means seeing life in a positive way, seeing the beauty in life.

I hope it helps."

HAE, you got the essence of the expression.

The interesting thing is that this is NOT the title of the movie in French but a title for the English speakers. The original french title is "La môme" (which means the kid).
They chose this title because it is that of her best known song.

Hi. Thanks. I only know what I google and read — none of that description is my own.

I figure babelfish (and others) are translating individual words into an idiom we know — like life is a bed or roses, (life is a bowl of cherries), we're in the pink . . . just guessing.
