Sounds like he is checking out the rotator cuff. There could be a tear in it. I went thru this--and the year of pain before they MRI'd and ended up doing surgery.
I hope you will finally be able to get to the bottom of this at last.
Hope they can find out and take care of it for you! I too had surgery in "99 If I remember right. It took them forever to fianlly do an MRI to find out what the problem was.Good Luck Sweet Bea!
Geez. How miserable. But.....now you are getting somewhere. Good.
Good for you for marching right in there.
God bless you! I had a 'bucket handle' tear in the catilage around my knee once. It requires a small outpatient incision and a week or so of getting used to moving your arm with some discomfort.
Billie, I hope this MRI gets to the root of this...you have been suffering too long. Yes, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing but sometimes a little knowledge gets the Dr off their butt and do something proactive for the patient. Keep us posted.

I hope they find something 'fixable' that will give you some relief. You've been in bad pain with that way too long. Good luck sweetie.
hi,
I just happened up on this subject. And recognized some of your symptoms from what I experienced about 3 yrs. ago. It could be a tear but also...if your shoulder and arm are in pain and hard to move, it could be the discs in your neck.
there will be no pain in the neck, not right away anyhow.
the reason I bring this up is because my doctors kept doing xrays, mri's etc. on my right shoulder while in fact I was loosing the ability to use my arm slowly and the pain was ever increasing becoming unbearable.
It wasn't until my doctor was ill one day (I go to the VA hospital) that I met a new doctor. He sent me immediately to get an MRI done and then the next day to a Spinal Cord Doctor who then put me right in to operate on me.
I had been in a car accident 8 yrs. before that, but the Spinal doc said sometimes any trauma (doesn't even have to be anything big) can affect the discs. as we get older, they start to "fall" on top of each other and start pressing against certain nerve endings that go into the shoulder and arm. Yet we may never experience neck pain, maybe some stiffness.
This operation IMMEDIATELY relived my pain. I've had over 20 operations, it was the easiest and fastest I ever recouped. But because it took them a few years to figure it out, I do have permanent damage where my arm is weak and I can't hold things up very long.
sorry this is so long, but I have run into so many people in the last 3 yrs. also having these symptoms and their doctors never looked at their neck. Once they asked them to do that, they all had the same thing I had.
I would call the doctor and ask if while they are doing the MRI of the shoulder area, can they also check the disks in your neck. You may have to be a bit persuasive. that way you don't have 2 MRI's if nothing shows up on the shoulder.
good luck and I hope they figure it out.
Billie, what was the report on the MRI?

I have no idea yet what is or will be done but have an app't with my orthopedic surgeon on tuesday and should find something out then. With the luck I have been having lately, who knows.... I will let you all know when I find out something. Thanks for all the concern and thoughts. God Bless and have a wonderful night/day
