I know some of you have seen this...

...on the bumper of a car, the back window of a camper or pick-up; maybe on a hat or shirt...

the next time you see that, go up to the person, stick out your hand and say "welcome home". I guarantee you will not be molested, told war stories, or bothered in any way.

But it will make two people feel good...

OK, filbert...I'm an "old" military wife. This looks like a medal..is it for service in Iraq?

Nope - that's the Vietnam "I was there" medal. I have one and so do thousands of other people. I see them on t-shirts, hats and campers. Occasionally (if I'm not too busy) I will hang around and wait for the owner of the truck - just to say "Welcome home". It's really amazing...
Just yesterday I met a guy that flew spotter aircraft in support of the 173rd Airborne - that was the unit I was assigned to in Vietnam - we hugged right there in the parking lot of Walmart...

"Welcome home, filbert" and thanks for your service. My husband was in 'nam also, on a minesweeper.
I know that is part of the "fruit salad" on your uniform indicating you have the medal. I just couldn't remember what the bar was called.
