It's up to us...

Yes, it is indeed a turbulent world which we currently occupy. But in light of recent posts presented, I wanted to ask: if rules and regulations were suddenly (and inexplicably) obliterated, how long do you think it would take before we’d revert to a downright savage society? (perhaps reminiscent of the cave man era)

The Wild West was one example, and even with that era, there was still some small semblance of sanity. Or was there?

Do you think we’d still even attempt to maintain a civil society, or would it all go to hell in a handbasket?

I completely disagree with the bleakness everyone seems to hold for our species. I very strongly feel that the vast majority of us are decent, do have standards, and would hang together to reassert order. It might not look the same as what we've always known but I think fundamentally we all have a moral compass.

Even those who are violent and not fans of law quickly establish an order within their own society. Each generation improves upon the circumstance of the previous one.

Society might resemble feudalism for a while and it might be 'might makes right' also for a while but I believe we seek order. In the face of all our ills, I still have hope.

I lived in Naples, Italy for almost 5 years where they have rules and regulation and laws but they are obeyed at random....it was chaos but life went on; of course, I might add they had the mafia ( no joke here) so people did not stray too far.
