Differences In People

The citizens of the U.S. have the privilege of being divided. You never find two people who agree entirely, no matter what the question is. It is rare to find two people who agree on a subject without serious discussion on several points.

Looking back on history, it has never been really different. The political campaign fights even in the early 1800s seem just too familiar.

Yet we managed to build a nation which is the beacon of the free world, gradually move toward equal opportunity for all citizens, and become a superpower. So what exactly is it that we want to change? Should we all stand in line, pay our taxes, and keep our mouths shut, like they do in most other nations?

I will too. Kerry if I remember kicked me out of his group. I can't remember what it was called. I do remember how disappointed I was when I thought an otherwise intelligent fellow could take exception to anything I might say and prove himself to be less than I had given him credit for.

" Illuminate us with some 'truthful' answers and we can cut the bullshit here and now. " GG

Read my profile. It's all there for everyone to see. I retired from the Army after 30 years as an Army instructor pilot. I now run a cattle farm in Tennessee. I am on Medicare, and I pay thousands per year for supplemental insurance to fill the gaps and get me and my wife into the doctor's door.

When I joined the Army, during the Vietnam war, the terms of retirement were specified. I served for 30 years and didn't get killed a single time. Should I refuse to accept the retirement pay now? Would you? Retired military pay isn't all that much. I hope you are not confusing it with a congressmen's pay and benefits.

There were several reasons why I chose to stay in the service. Military pay was not one of them.

Kerry, thank you for your service. Now , can we all play nice? Debate! That is an art. Calling people names, that's just not nice.

Speaking of Vietnam, John Fogerty concert on right now on PBS. If it weren't a begathon,it would be great. Boy , was he the voice of the era.

Thanks for your input, Merlin. The following analysis was especially helpful in how differently some can view the opinions of others:

" Kerry, you are cursed with the proclivity to expect and see the worst in people. Where it could go either way you inalterably lean towards the worst. You see poor people as lazy, unambitious and ready to steal the food out of your mouth. You see women and minorities, who wish only for a fair chance to prove themselves, as weak whiners, undeserving of any effort on your part to even the playing field. You pose questions that when answered honestly serve only to provide you with fodder for more of your insulting, misogynistic, racist laments. You bait and wheedle your way through life and then play the "poor me" card when called on it. You are not worthy of the effort to debate what you no doubt see as your grand ideas. " Merlin
