Did I not have equal opportunity? In What sense do you mean?
I don't remember ever saying that the status quo bothers ( Me ). I believe I was answering am impersonal question with an impersonal opinion. As far as equal opportunity is concerned, that might be a better question for my kids than it would be for me being that I was a teenager during the civil rights movement. Equal opportunity in education and job promotion impacted the 80's more than it did the 60's and 70's. I was in my thirties by then.
Change does not always mean the abolishment of one thing for another. Change can also be about making the status quo better by working for everyone.
But since you mention equal opportunity, there is a group I would like to see added to the equal opportunity bandwagon. They call themselves Gay's. That would be positive change against the status quo.
Did I have equal opportunity? Hmmmmm? That's debatable.
There was a time when I did not have "equal opportunity" and it wasn't that long ago. Even these days I've been told by friends who have the means to know that I am paid less than my male counterparts. I do the same job as they, I work the same hours as they, my results are the same so the unequal pay has to based on something, no?
It's a bit disengenuous for a white man, historically the "most" equal group, to say that others have no reason to bitch. Walk a mile in my shoes...or Charles's...or Two's.

just fucking wrong on so many levels and in so many ways....you embarrass white middleaged men with a brain, kerry, by spouting absolutely appallingly insensitive and incredibly stupid remarks...if equal opportunity was not a problem, you would not see legislatin to bar discrimination based on color or gender or sexual orientation now would you? cause it wouldn't be an issue..and even with laws it still is an issue as long as we have fossils thinking things were better when 'those others' knew their place...you mentioned that you get tired of being labelled a cracker....i think you just told everyone why you are labelled a cracker

Those laws make it possible for anyone to go as far as they want to, if they are willing to work.
Clarence Thomas did OK. So did Bill Cosby, Quincy Jones, Condeleeza Rice, Colin Powell, Spike Lee, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and Oprah Winfrey. They did it through performance, self-improvement and determination.

Effective communication goes a long way, too.
