I'm going out on a limb here, but I feel the professionals need to know this. I ran across this video on Growingbolder.com and it made my blood boil.

Are we going back to days of old, when people were put in asylums, homes, whatever you want to call them. Homeless, mentally disturbed, sex offenders, sick, everyone jammed together. The video happens to be in a nursing home. Look at this daughter and tell me your heart doesn't go out to her. Herding 'all' people needs to stop. Prisoners are being let loose to wind up in nursing homes?

I am the 11-7 supervisor in an extended care facility privately run and right now it's census,census and have recently admitted 2 gentleman with serious potential for violence.Our floors are long and some of our rooms are quite a distance from the desk.I nurse and 2 cnas for 54 residents,and yet we meet nj standards what happened in the video can easily happen.It is indeed very scary.

I know it can happen, luckily I have never had to deal with it, I have been doing nursing homes in the Sacramento area for almost 19 years now, not counting the 3 years I spent working in the State Prison, but I have known CNA's who have abused patients, one I heard yelling at a patient, OMG, DID YOU PEE YOUR BED AGAIN, I reamed her a new one, I refuse to have anything like that happen on my shift, but as you say, we are far outnumbered by the patients, and we all know that the only thing the people up front ever worry about is $$$, that's the bottom line. It's too bad, so many bad stories are known about everywhere, not sure what the answer is, I guess all we can do is worry about our own little corners of the world.

So sad...you do realize some nursing homes hire convicted felons to work in nursing homes aren't you? It's sad but true, and the elderly are abused over and over again.
