Guess Winter is Here

We planned a mountain bike ride yesterday. It was quite windy and pretty darn chilly, but even with Kris begging to go to the coffee shop instead, even offering to buy, we went.

.....after all, there are hills, sage brush, and a few cedars thrown in to hide behind. Sorry about the fuzzy, had to grab the camera to get this. Its a good thing we went because this is what we woke up to this morning:

So, it would seem winter is here, or at least close enough to count. I guess I will do something around the house like pack the summer riding clothes. But wait ..... there are those new winter tights and jerseys that I got at the end of the season that need to be unpacked. Life is good when you're a biker!

"Life is good when you are a biker."

You are so right about that teesiea! It does not snow (well once every so many years) where I am but the hilly roads do get slippery with ice. That can be a white knuckle experience in itself but nothing like what you saw outside your door this morning. So, do you store your road bike for the winter and break out your mountain bike? BTW, the new line of winter clothing for lady cyclists is improving all of the time. Some of them even look decent too!

Ride on,

We can ride year around here for the most part, you just bundle up. Probably the worst thing we deal with is the wind. When it gets bad, and trust me, it can get pretty windy in these here parts, we turn to mountain bikes and hide on the trails. When snow comes, well, something possessed me to buy studded tires for my mountain bike a couple of years ago. I have had more fun with them on these oil field roads! I'll have to share a story about that later. I am working on a couple of my friends to get a set, as it is now.....its just me out there slippin' and slidin' and gigglin'. Actually, those tires have some serious traction!

I didn't know they made studded tires for mountain bikes. I don't really ride much when it ices up here, I did manage a short ride in the ice last winter, but it wasn't enjoyable. I too break out the mountain bike in the winter.....and it's almost here in Oklahoma as well. We get a little breeze or two here also....so I know what you mean.
