Fixative?

What kind of fixative should I apply to the portrait I drew for my friend? I have an old can of Krylon clear gloss finish latex enamel. Is that good to use? I've heard of people using hair spray, but I worry about the effects of time and humidity with that. Also, will applying a fixative get rid of the shiny reflections from the dark areas? Although I love that silvery sheen in her hair, it makes her face look really weird when you look at it from certain angles. I'm sure you experienced sketchers know what I'm talking about.

I tweaked the drawing a bit more and she's looking much better. I would scan her and post her again so that you can see the changes, but the scanned images just doesn't look as good as the real thing. Every time I scan it, I'm disappointed with the result and that makes me feel less confident about giving it to her. So, I'm not scanning it again. It's time to leave her alone and get her out of here.

Thanks and hugs to everyone for your help.

I like to use matte fixative on graphite drawings. It eliminates that reflective surface.

ditto hair spray used to be an alternative but I've found that recently theres a lot of alcohol in them which can blurr the image

You can buy a spray fixative for pencil and charcole drawings at any arts/crafts store.

I've found Grumbaucher to be the best. I don't really like Blair, Krylon is OK.

Thanks everyone. I was anxious to get that portrait out of my house so I'd stop finding things to change. I sprayed it with hairspray, framed it and gave it to her today. She loved it! I'll see what I find at Hobby Lobby when I go again and I'll use the right stuff next time.

Scanners: I recently use one of those HP all in one printer, scanner, copiers to scan one of my pencil sketches. It did the worse scan I've ever seen. The pixels were square, only picking up about half the mid tones and was very washed out looking when finished. I do not recommend those el cheepos.
Although the one I've been using for years, a Canon Ide $69 stand alone scanner is excellent.

Just wait to see how much you have to spend on ink with the el cheepos. Great marketing tactic for inkjet manufacturers. Give away inkaholic printers.

I have the HP photosmart all in one and like it just fine. I tried a Kodak, ink was cheaper but man did it crank out crappy prints. Unless you were doing PHOTOs on PHOTO paper, nothing kept it's true color. I have to pay more for ink but would rather have the truer colors of my HP.
