It will backfire because Israel will not deliver on an independent Palestinian state. The military steps taken by both sides are minor compared to the political steps both need to take. And since Israel is the controlling power, it is key to success.
It was 42 years ago that Israel occupied the territories. Israel has done nothing to build the political, social or economic infrastructure a state needs. Indeed, Israel is still extending its colonization of the West Bank while maintaining Gaza as a gulag.
Building military organizations in a society desperate for political, social and economic improvement is foolish.
Perhaps this military experiment is intended to backfire so that Israel can justify another 42 years of occupation and the total displacement of the Palestinian population?
Just my opinion, perhaps it's time for the US to get off it's "high horse" take care of it's own, like prove we can take care of our citizens, our infrastructure, get our house in order! We have the right to keep terrorists out of our country, but we are not God Almighty!
We have lost our focus, we went into Afghanistan to get the people that bombed us. We have no idea if Bin Laden is alive or dead, and if he's alive we have no true ideal where he is. Was that not our mission? Are we willing to send more of our young to die when we have no focus?
We have made thing worse, Pakistan is now a nuclear nation at the brink!

I'll admit to just not knowing about these military strategies overseas..... so I'm going to watch, read, listen and learn.
I do know that the Palestinians are suffering terribly .... and they need land and livelihoods.
I agree that this country needs to take care of its own citizens.
As I recall we armed Osama Ben Laden to fight the Russians. I wonder how many American made weapons from that period have been used against us and how many still arm the Taliban.
