Can anyone tell me what this is?

I was out weeding and clearing leaves and I came across this thing in the garden kind of growing up from the soil. It was bright red, fleshy and had a pin type opening at the top. It also had a fly hanging on it. Made me think of something in the fly trap family. but since it was fleshy feeling, it gave me the creeps.

I put it in the group photos.

Can anyone tell me what it might be? actually its drooped over after I touched it 3-4 times. like I killed it....

I can't see it too well but I think it's a Martian plant. Whenever something strange pops up in my yard I naturally assume it's from outer space. It's the only logical explanation. So be careful it doesn't turn into this !

it has already died, but I thought it might have been a fungus or in the mushroom family. Kind of had that tecture, but really strange red color.... with a pin-size whole in the top/tip of this thing when standing upright...

I'm with hippiemama. Due to the wet spring and summer, I've had an explosion of some funky looking mushrooms/fungus.About a month ago a women and her son picked some mushrooms in a suburb of Boston. They ate them and got seriously ill.. Apparently those mushrooms or others like it can even be poisonous to touch.

there is a fungus in our woods, that grows on trees, that is kinda liquidy. it can be white, pink or red. if you touch it, it can kill you. very dangerous stuff. i never touch any fungus unless i know for sure, which is rare. they should teach kids this in school.

Touched it very lightly, while digging around it, I could tell that it was very fleshy and fell over after several hits by the weeds, pretty sure it was dangerous and funky because of the fly sitting on it, like grazing... YUK
