The HDR definitely brings out details not seen in the original. They're both good pictures, to be sure.
I guess it depends on what look and feel you want to achieve, the original being a softer, more impressionistic view than the highly defined textures of the HDR, in my opinion.
I haven't had much luck with those things yet...
Having to manually reset exposure for each iteration has proven to be a bit problematic; I get a lot of movement even with a tripod.
Nice work, Testo!

I tend to agree with you on the impressionistic thoughts. It kind of makes me think of Monet and Giverny, while the HDR version makes me think more of Van Gogh.
Well Test’, let me ask this about that.
For me, HDR means merging three RAW images taken at different f-stops into a single image using a special editing software program.
Is this the kind of process you use with Picnik?
You have only posted one original; where are the other two RAW files shot at different f-stops?
I wonder if Picnik tries to simulate HDR without using at least three RAW images?
The final purported HDR image looks too juiced up to me. But that’s just my take on it.
Tell us more about this Picnik HDR process, and how it works?

Picnik is the editor that is found in Flickr and also online at www.picnik.com. In Flickr, HDR-ish is a premium effect (camera) but on the Picnik website it is free. The following is what they say about the effect: Emulate the uber-popular HDR look with HDR-ish. Adjust the radius slider to change the halo size. Adjust the strength slider to change the impact. Tip: Try this with city lights or landscapes with clouds.
The composition and scenery are just great. I think a bit over saturated with Blue. What processing software are you using? Photomatix? Do you use lightroom?
