Genuine Free Registry Cleaner!!!

Due to various requests posted here I have looked often to find a genuine free registry cleaner. And failed!
But I found one yesterday. It actually works and does some other worthwhile things as well. The link is:

There is a paid upgrade for $19.95. If you install, uninstall, move files around, etc. you may find that the paid version will do a little more for you. Among other things it does a deep scan of the registry which can take quite a bit of time, but it may be worth while.

If your system is stable and you seldom add new programs and uninstall old ones, the free version will be more than adequate.

AdvancedSystem Care is the one I was referring to, Cathbad that is too aggressive to be used on a regular basis. If you use it too often it can box your system in to where it will no longer function. I have it on my system and use it for spyware, privacy items and junk files, but that is all. Maybe once a year I'll use it to clean the registry if I have uninstalled many programs. But that's it!

Auslogics, which I also use, has an excellent registry cleaning program and it's no where near as aggressive as AdvancedSystem Care. : )

I have used Advanced System Care for several years . Not sure about the free version but in paid version . you can set it to scan system when you want it . If you don't it scans system many times a day . The last time i bought the paid version you could activate it on three computers . I like it but when some of you said doing a registry scan too much could hurt the system i worried . You also can set it to scan what you want it to !

You also can set it to scan what you want it to with the free version too. I just have the registry cleaner turned off on my Advanced System Care. For everything else, it's fine to use everyday, which I do.

I use it and have the registry cleaner turned off too. I took MWR's advice when he mentioned it in another post a while back.

Let me start with my Bottom-line on registry cleaners way, way, down this reply:

Do NOT chose a registry cleaner just because it's FREE. This is one time that research for well-respected and highly rated cleaners is essential, even if you need to spend a few bucks for it.

Eric and I came to the same conclusion on ASC some time ago. Many moons ago, I searched high and lo for a low-impact "safe" registry cleaner. I have been using Registry Mechanic ($$) for more than 5 years because I do download many programs to test and then uninstall.

The major benefit of a registry cleaner is to clean up the registry crumbs left behind from the uninstalls.

As an experiment that Eric shared with me, was a Registry Mechanic scan (deep) that uncovered approximately 10 errors. Then I did an ASC scan--250 more errors. I would say that's AGRESSIVE!

Always keep in mind that a registry cleaner is not a little toy. Some well-known pundits still believe that the use of ANY registry cleaner WILL eventually crash your system. In their opinion, any interaction with the registry (the brains of your system) is dangerous. I never had a problem so I thank those risk-averse pundits for their opinion.

To note, many of us live on the edge and use the forbidden use of the command line entry "Regedit" to DIRECTLY access the registry. Simple example is the speed at which "All Programs" and all other sub-menus open--I don't like the Windows default (too slow) so I find the appropriate time entry and reduce it (went too far at one point that when my mouse got near "All Programs", everything was opening simultaneously).

NOT for novices. There are utility programs that will do this and take care of many other annoying things without you accessing the registry--Personally, I'd rather do it myself. These programs are commonly referred to as "Tweaking" programs--Caveat emptor

Bottom-line, my advice is to find a well-respected registry cleaner and DON'T use one just because it's FREE.

Regedit is the only program I use on the registry because everything else just makes the OS designers' job more difficult.

???MrTS--When you uninstall a program, you know where to go to clean up the crumbs? If so, you are Da Man because the crumbs are scattered all over the registry.
