I am too far out also so we never have any kids on Halloween. Our Grange Hall and Fire Department put on Treat Street for the kids in our area. It is a big Halloween party. Give the kids to enjoy Halloween in a safe place.
We don't give out candy at home, but our church puts on a Fall Festival which we help put on.

In recent years, I lived in a community where quite a few of the churches had events for the children and adults to participate. And some of the neighborhood associations set up a few meeting places in the neighborhoods for smaller gatherings. I am now in a neighborhood where once again, the churches are having a Fall Festival. I see that SAFETY is a serious concern.
totally off topic, but funny. i havent been here in a few days, ok weeks, and it changed a bit, AGAIN.
so i look at the last message and it says, block genuinely from group. i just found that funny. genuinely, as opposed to not genuinely. and then i looked up and realized it was your name. sorry i just found it funny.
can any of you afford all this candy, and do you want to?
I can afford it but for the past two years, we bought candy and only a couple people showed and then...well, we had to eat it.
So this year, I decided not to put the light on. I don't live in a rough neighborhood but I am alone here and I don't want to do it. There are churches that have Fright Night.
I have been invited to a Halloween get-together at my friend's house who has a 10 month old son who will be in his first Halloween outfit - A devil costume. That may be cute.
yes hg, you need to get out and live again. and theres nothing better then a kid to make you feel young (or old after a while), but anyway. get out and see the little devils. : )
Again this year we had all of maybe 8 kids, over a three hour period, ring our doorbell for candy. We are in a deed restricted community, 60 homes, maybe 4 to 6 kids under 16! Each year it seems fewer come. Most of this years weren't even from our community. Maybe next year, I'll leave the porch light off!
I'm much too far for the city kids to visit, but in town they have a community celebration. I would have to find a place to park my vehicle to even partake of watching what goes on..Our city is growing and I'm sure that future affairs will be well attended. We have a very large recreation center and that gets used for the Fourth of July.
Another thought, this coming at All Saints Day also coincides with the start of the Reformation when
Martin Luther proposed theses to argument the stages of church departure from Christian mores. As
I'm a Lutheran I feel more at home with that.
Our town has a Halloween haunt every year in the park and the residents contribute money to make it all happen. Much safer for the kids this way. a handful of kids still go door to door but there aren't enough to make the purchase of candy worthwhile, If it;s in the house, I'll eat it!
