Quilt pattern

I know - I know! I have not been very neighborly lately but had some unusual things happening. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone has a patter for a "Crazy Quilt"? My Mom used to make them all the time and was a great way of using up odds and ends of material. I am a new quilter so not very good at figuring things out without a pattern. I would like to make a Queen size quilt. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Jeannie40

HI Jeannie. Hey, no fair teasing us with the 'unusual things happening' statement. Give, girl. What's up?

OK, I am a quilter. A crazy quilt is just that -- crazy. It has no pattern. You just cut pieces of material into any shape you want, then sew them together. Keep doing that until it gets as big as you want it. Then cut the sides even so you don't have any strange shapes hanging out.

Many quilters sew their shapes until they have about 10 or 12 inches then cut them into squares, and then sew those squares together.

For the traditional crazy quilt, the ladies would embroider over all the seams, using a lot of different fancy embroidery stitches. Like this:

This embroidery is done using the fancy stitches on your sewing machine.

The traditional method is to use squares of muslin, then sew your shapes onto these squares.

If you google "How To Make A Crazy Quilt", you will get tons of sites that give you instructions.

Nice, Marti. I'm doing a quilt right now, although it is not a crazy quilt. I have made so many quilts in the last couple of years for family, I have lots of pieces of fabrics left. I am going to make a couple of stringy quilts with the leftovers, using up material, left over battings and left over backings. None of it matches, and I know it won't make a bit of difference.
