Soldier's Angel

Just thought that you might like to hear about a small way to say a big thank you to the men and women who serve overseas (what ever your thoughts are about our 'military involvements').

I joined a group called Soldier's Angels and got the name of a soldier currently serving in a FOB, Forward Operating Base (I think) in Afghanistan.

I write a letter as though he were already a friend and send some goodies like trail mix, jerky, cards etc. They have a list of things that soldier's might enjoy that come from home. I'd like to think that this young man and the guys he serves with know that someone from home other than their family is taking the time to talk with and thank them for their service.

It costs me little in time or money and I hope means a lot to the soldiers who receive the letters and packages. Hope you'll consider it...........I may be writing to one of your son's.

God Bless You, MJV710!!!!
It only takes a few minutes out of our time to send a card or letter!...Even in the age of computers, you should see our soldiers lined up at mail call,at their FOB's waiting for a word from home.....

Soldiers angels is wonderful. I have adopted two over the years.
Another great organization is : adoptaussoldier.org I like this one because officers sign up soldiers that are obviously not getting as much from home. These soldiers have written me more than my own son.

Hello Everyone

Thanks for your kind thoughts.

The website is www.soldiersangels.org. There are all kinds of programs and you can participate at any level. I am looking forward to adopting a k-9 soldier and handler next year since I love dogs.

Thank you for the adoptasoldier.org info. I will have to look into that as well. With so much going on in Afghanistan right now I don't know how to check to be sure that he is safe. Does anyone have any idea on how to do that? Thank you

Michaele

I know how important it is to send our soldiers letters. When my daughter was stationed over seas she said the only thing that kept her sanity was getting letters from family and friends. I wrote her three times a day. Mail is sporadic so she would get a letter a day. Sometimes I would just send a card to let her know we were thinking of her. THIS is something I will definately do. THANKS!!!

Having a son who has recently returned from Iraq after his second tour of duty there, I can say they absolutely DO appreciate letters, cards and boxes from all. I have an online friend whom I have never met persoanally, yet he wrote to my son(also whom he's never met personally) and Ben also sent a couple of care packages for Jason and his men, including letters written to the soldiers from Ben's grandson's fourth grade class. These are all our sons and daughters people, and they put themselves in harm's way to keep us safe. It is only right and honorable that we give to them---------
