Anywhere in the world

Nam's reponse to a post suggested taking off and collecting rocks all around the world. If you had one place (only one) on this earth to go collect rocks, or one place to see a geologic feature, where would it be?

.................a relatively safe spot in the world I would like to visit is Ireland and the Giant's Causeway, and example of columnar jointing of volcanic basalt. I have always wanted to see this, as I am familiar with similar formations here in the US at Devil's Tower, and Devil's Postpile. And hundreds of other neat volcanic basalt formations up and down the Columbia River on both sides in OR and WA.......

What's in Brazil Rick?

Not sure where I'd like to go. I in an old volcano area somewhere, I'll have to think about it.

Guess you're right.

If you go to another country, can you collect rocks and bring them back? Is there some kind of process that you have to go through, paperwork? I'm going to England this summer and may brush up on geology of the British Isles, maybe do a little exploring. Any ideas about bring rocks home?

I can just see that scene at the PO, and what is in your container Maam.......oh, just a box of rocks..

Has anyone gone to stonehenge? There is one of the stones that they call blue stone, it has a different temperature than the other stones. They think it came from Wales......very odd when you touch it.

I think mailing them back would be less of a scene than when your carry-on is x-rayed...now that would be a scene....and why is your suitcase full of rocks? I'm afraid you'll have to come with us ma'am.

Good thing they didn't look in my suitcase when I came back from England last time. I had some oil paints set that my aunt gave me, along with the turpintine etal. Good thing it was before 9/11.
