Pre-Hot Stove considerations

Okay, how comfortable are you with a pitching rotation of Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, Matsusaka & Wakefield? Available pitchers this off season include Rich Harden or John Lackey. There's even an outside chance of a deal with Brandon Webb or a trade for Felix Hernandez. With a new GM in Toronto, Halliday won't be on block unless the Yankees want to give up their farm system for him, and if they should lose to LA, they just might.

The curse of Nomah.....our shortstop position has been a revolving door since July 31, 2004. Lowrie still doesn't impress me, but maybe if he's fully recovered (which he says he is) from his wrist surgery, he'll be the shortstop we need. Alex Gonzales has done very well in the Boston pressure cooker. Should Theo & Co re-sign him, or look elsewhere, and who would be your choice?

If they don't sign Jason Bay, who would you like to see in LF?

If another heavy hitter is needed, who would you like to see them go after, and who would you trade for him?

Just trying to keep our gray matter from getting dusty, while we wait to see what Theo does at the GM Meeting Nov 9 - 11th.

I am certain Valentine will be Indians` new manager, he practically said so on TWIB.
It was 64f in London today and sunny.....perfect for a game.
How about the Angels` last error.......unbelieveable!

Oh my. That starting rotation looked pretty damned good at the start of last season. So......if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
As long as Theo doesn't go for anymore reclamation projects a la Penny and Smoltz I'll be a happy camper.
I hope we keep Gonzalez. As you say, enough of the revolving door for awhile. He seemed to click with Pedrioa. Let him stay. And Jay Bay too, please.
Is it possible that Papi has one more big year left in him ? He started showing signs of the old Papi in the 2nd half. Hope he gets the chance. I'm not ready to give up on him just yet.

I've been hearing a lot about Papi being washed up, but when stop to realize that he didn't hit his first HR until June 9th, and he ended the season hitting 5 more homers than he did in 2007, and 10 more RBI's than in 2007, he doesn't sound washed up. I think he still has it. I don't know if it was the WBC jinx that caused his slump or something else, but if he starts the season the way we are used to seeing him, that's a major deal for us.

I think Gonzalez has proven himself with the Red Sox. He's always had good offensive #s in Boston, and his defense is a definite improvement over Green and Lowrie. Why Theo & Co get mezmorized by these other "elite" guys is beyond me. Not everyone can play in Boston as we found out with Renteria and Lugo. Gonzo works for Boston.

Bay had career high BA and RBI's in 2009, he's only 30, and I think he's a good fit for Boston. He never let the pressure under which he came get to him. I hope they can sign him, but I'm afraid someone will simply offer him more than the Sox are willing to pay. His preference is for Boston, and he says money's not his main consideration, but when a team throws big dollars at you, it's hard to turn away.
