Pete, The guy that set me up with my laptop and new pc told me that he installed AVG 8.5 and said it cost $80 for 2 machines for 2 yrs.
Did I get robbed if avg 9 is free? Also, should I upgrade to 9 or keep what I have running? Thanks for your help....

You can say you got robbed yes.
But when you bought the software did you get free technical support and other perks?

There is a free version of AVG and a paid version that has more features, but the free version is good enough.,

Well, I have the anti virus, firewall, anti spyware web shield, e mail scanner, anti rookit, link scanner, resident shield, licnse number and expiration date and update manager. What does all of that mean? He told me to make sure I saved the license number. Should I use the update manager to go to 9?

The paid version of AVG, while I believe it has the same "9" in the Version number, has a lot more options and protection than the free version.
However, I think that if you take other freebies, like SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot, Malwarebytes, etc., and add them to the "free mix", you probably get close to the same protection that the $80 for 2 years will get you from AVG.
However, what you don't get for free is the online support, so if that's important (and to many, many people, it is!) then the cost is minimal.
You did fine, Kaitee.....

Thanks, Pete! I didn't even know about 9! ;-)
MWR,
hee heee...the only "9" that we would probably keep an ear to the ground on is the DVD release of "District 9" !
