WINDOWS 7

Is anyone going to download this. I have windows and I have Vista. From what I understand reading about W7 I will lose Vista. That might not be a bad thing, but I am really not sure. If it is complicated I do not want to do it. I am far from being a computer wizard. I am just lucky to know the basic stuff.

I'm cyniical enough to wait awhile until at least the first patches come out to fix thee bugs people find on the first widely iused version.

XP is safe and works for me. Not smart enough to use Vista and 7

My son who has a degree in computer engineering has it and loves it -- he told me that they released a beta version a long time ago to anyone who wanted to try it -- that's how they worked out a lot of the bugs before the recent official release.

I have been on two development versions of 7 and what is there not to like...?

Well, nothing much, which is what a lot will experience, not much. Oh, not that there isn't a lot going on, there is, but overall the experience isn't anything but a better XP..and better than Vista.

So, get now or get it later, you are going to get it. XP is now old in the tooth and will come off update in about a year after 7 has been ou, So, XP will become obsolete. And no, not so that it doesn't run, it will and will for some time, but it will be dropped off the list of supported software as 7 shows up on more machines.

And the price..? Not modest but then again not and arm and a leg either, Microsoft will come for that later.

I use XP on my desktop, and Vista on the laptop. I prefer XP. Dont plan on going out and getting 7 unless I buy a new computer.

From what I've read conversion from Vista is supposed to be fairly easy but, conversion from XP is impractical. I understand that the best way is to do a clean install of Win7. This would require saving all of your personal files to load after the OS install. You can save a couple of bucks by buying the upgrade version. To do a clean install you do the upgrade and follow up with a second install. Either way you must backup your personal files...

This sounds like to much work for me. I was reading all that stuff yesterday. Not interested in all the work. Plus it is very likely I could mess up. Do not want the stress.
