Powerline Pass 10-24-09

I gathered a group of 5 to hike this morning, and for a while was wondering how wise we were. There was a rainstorm on the way up into the mountains, and that turned to snow as I went up. I thought I might be the only one to actually show up, but they all came. We dressed as warmly as we could. One woman was miserable as we hiked in the cold wind and we turned around after only half an hour, so we hiked a total of 1 hour. We did get to see a dozen moose gathered for the rutting season. They were calm--no mooing going on, so they must have been finished with their activities. Look in the reply for photos...

Very nice -- pretty cold, huh? I would love to hike along there, but would need to be dressed right. Was it windy?

Even rainy and snowy days can be beautiful on the trail. You definitely have to dress for the weather and be prepared with extra layers. Sure is a pretty hike.

It was probably about 32 degrees, with winds maybe at 20 mph, so according to a wind chill chart, it felt like 15-20 degrees.

Looks like you had a worthwhile hike even if it was short, you got a nice view of Anchorage and some wildlife.
