Forgetfull or self-abusing?

Does it make any sense at all that the very meds that make my life bearable I keep forgetting to take?!? I don't understand. Do I have an inner desire to be in awful pain and stiffness, or am I just forgetful? Today makes 3 times this week- I take meds am & pm, so a total of 14 doses, and I missed 3. How stupid. Having big CFS flare, all I want to do is sleep and eat. I gained 2 lbs. this week- whether water gain or fat, I feel awful from it. So I am praying this week is more active.
How do all of you remember to take your meds? It's not that hard, really, but I still forget from time to time. Then my body reminds me. <:-(

You can buy a meds. holder with a timer on it, that rings at the times you set it for, to take your meds. I would think that it might do the trick for you.

I take my meds 3 times a day. I have my watch alarm set for the afternoon time so I don't forget, and I take my mornings with breakfast. I think the alarm pill holder would be a good idea for you.

I try to prepour them on a Sunday in a 7day dispenser. Sometimes I don't get to that and I do forget a 5 pm pill here & there. At least with the dispenser, even if I miss once a day, I figure it out by bedtime. I don't know why I forget....age or fibro or both? My Mom has a watch with an alarm that reminds her to take her insulin. You can also use your cell phone as an alarm.

I had to go to the 7 day pill box a couple of years ago. I was doing great on my own until I was distracted one morning and then had to deal with the effects of missing a dose of my Neurontin. That was a headache I didn't like which then turned into a migraine. We were away from home for several hours so tough luck for me. Now this summer I did it twice in one week at night. Woke up early with a headache. Took me awhile to figure it out. Get up out of bed and come downstairs to find it out on the counter where I had put it. I had changed my routine. Really have to watch myself. Believe me no one else will!!!! This summer I was working on changing my dosage so things weren't ironed out yet. Got it now though!
The alarm sounds like a very good idea.

I'm such a creature of habit that I have a certain place that I sit so often that my medications are right beside my chair. I take them on such a regular basis that I almost never forget to take meds. When I do forget to take them I really know it. Because I take pain meds morning and evening, I starting really quickly hurting if I miss a dosage. I think the alarms would help folks who do forget to take their meds, though.

Thanks to everyone for your helpful words. I just get so frustrated with myself sometimes!
I may start setting an alarm. I also use a 7-day pill container, which has been a blessing for me. Usually if I forget, it's when I break routine some way... leave the house earlier, oversleep, etc.
I can't go along with the pill by my chair idea, as I spent years criticizing my dear late mil for having hers on the coffee table and kitchen table where my babies could have gotten into them. Now I have grandchildren, and I won't have my meds accessible to them. Too scary to think about.
I think I will also put a big red sign on the front door to remind me: PILLS????? That should be a good reminder as well.
Thanks again to all. Blessings, Sue

Good for you for figuring out something that will work for you. I used to remember every time. But then I started getting confused. Did I take it? Didn't I take it? That's when I bought my 7 day pill container.
I may need a sign next? Or an alarm. Who knows? I'm just glad there are devices and ideas out there for us all.

i use my cell phone alarm. but my dad has the coolest system. he is 88 and theres a reason he got there. in the morning he takes his pills, and then he turns the bottle upside down. this way he knows he took his pills. for the 3xa day ones. he puts it back up, and then back down when he takes it at night. this way he always knows he took the pill and doesnt take one twice.

when my mom was alive he gave her her pills. she had many. he kept a list under the pill bottles. which and when to take them. and a spot where he checked off that he gave it. he made it on the computer, and did the check marks every day, every time. the benefit to this is also, when she had to go to the hospital, he had a record to give them, not only what meds but which were given and which werent. the nurses loved him.

i keep my meds in my purse, all the time. if my routine is ruined, its right there with me. its an extra step, but well worth it. many a time i left without taking them, and remembered in the car. and there they were. a little late, but still there.

hope it helps.

All these ideas are super! I use a 7 day day and night dispenser myself. I need a keeper, have forgotten too many times...then pay the price. I have my meds in a lock box, too many little ones in and out here to leave them out.
