survivor of swine flu

On Wednesday, I started having a severe sore throat. Found my temperature was 102. From that point on its a blur and I was delerious and alone. At some point, I found the energy to go to the emergency room. They told me they don't test for H1N1 unless you are sick enough to warrant being admitted. I slept on the cot while they found out the strep results were negative. I have had fever every day for four days now and am so weak it is impossible to do anything. On the first 2 days I did not eat a thing. Now I eat but don't enjoy the experience. My fever today was 100. Each day, for 3 days it was 102. So this may be too soon but I am encouraged by my temperature going down that I am going to survive. I am a school teacher here and in a local school district 300 students are out and 10 per cent of the staff. They are having a major sanitising session at that school this weekend. Have any of your towns been this hard hit?

I am sorry to read how sick you are and hope you will be better soon. There is one high school about 50 miles northwest of me that closed for Thursday and Friday. They had 26% of the teachers call in sick and they could not cover them all.

Feel Better!!

mama, your symptoms sound just like mine except I have a hideous cough too. I've been wondering if I have H1N1. I'm not going to bother going to the ER. I prefer to stay away from other sick people. But I've had a fever for 3 days. I'm just taking OTC meds and drinking lots of iced tea.

Bummer. I was supposed to be on a beach this weekend. :-(

BTW, FOX is reporting the the WH has declaredan emergency due to the spread on H1N1. I think that means they can start using unapproved drugs to treat it. I'll just stick with my tried and true OTC drugs.

I am so sorry, mamapj. I wondered where you had gotten off to but thought you and your friend were spending time together. How wrong I was! Take care. It is no fun to be alone and sick.

We've been hit hard here in Atlanta because the kids went back to colleges and schools earlier than some other areas of the country. They are saying most cases of the flu are the H1N1 virus so they don't bother to test anymore. It is particularly cruel to the very young and young adults. Evidently, those of us who are older have some immunity to the worst of the strain and, though we get ill, we are not as critical or as at risk for death as the youngsters.

Glad you are feeling well enough to come online and let us know you are still with us.

mamapajama, I hope you feel better. No, we haven't had any kind of school closings for H1N1 virus so far here in South Florida, and they have started to vaccinate many children at schools.

well thank you for all of your warm wishes gifts and roses, too(bigshot)! i feel my spirits lifting. wish i didn't go to the emergency room luluO. my daughter told me the CDC has stated that if you have flu like symptoms now, you probably have H1N1 since now is too early for seasonal flu to hit.

Snellebelle, my friend and I are still hitting it off but sensibly he has steered clear this week. I think my fever has been high enough. lol Tentatively, we have a date next week; we shall see.

Sorry to hear about the flu attack Lulu and mamapj. Hope you're both feeling better soon. You're very smart to stay away from the ER unless necessary, lulu. Not to scare anyone, but yesterday I heard in the news that more people die from hospital related infections than from car accidents. Scary statistics if they're true.
