Fix healthcare.

Obama campaigned on transparency
Laying things out on the internet for 5 days before a vote.
Why not?
And then have a countrywide referendum.
Screw the politicians and their special interests.
Take it to the people who are going to feel the effects.

One obvious reason is that not everyone in America ( like the working poor ) has internet access.

And if you go to whitehouse.gov, you will find your idea already practice there. In fact all elements of the 5 bills being proposed have been post there for months. You can also got to view link

to get the audio version, for those who have trouble with reading, or reading comprehension.

We will have no third world politics in this country......Thank you very much.~smile~

Passing another drink to Charles. At this rate, you'll be tipsy by noon and stop pestering people with facts.

Nationwide referendum - this from people who believe in 'death panels' because Palin says so? From people who pass twenty-year-old rumors as if they were news, too lazy to Scope them out as the falseness they are? From people who throw out their aluminum pans because a single study showed aluminum plaques in the brains of alzheimer patients? Who pester their doctors for Tamiflu or antibiotics for every case of sniffles?

G-d save us from the 'common man'!

Charles,
The healthcare reform bill is a morphing giant which has not come down to its final form. Anything posted so far is just chatter. Just ask Harry Reid who locked himself up in his office with a few dems to reveal a new plan recently.

So, while you're about to have your next drink and the bill is going to go to the floor for a vote, all those backroom deals will get slipped in as amendments and a Democratic majority will vote on it before it has ever had a chance to be presented on the internet.

My point is that 6 or 7 people are going to decide 1/6th of the economy. I think normal people should have a chance to provide a check on what a few politicians are trying to ram down their throats.

You don't like that word referendum. Too bad in America we don't have one, just protests that politicians can ignore.

"We will have no third world politics in this country."
Now you are calling the EU system of government "third world politics"? We elect politicians to represent our interests. When they propose laws who better than the public to approve them by referendum; otherwise, you will need another drink.

Perm, put down the kool-aid; I have no idea of what you are talking about

Quite a lot of the people who are going to feel the effects are still hampered by dial-up internet service only. If you aren't in a large enough community for cable or telephone DSL, you'd think it was 1995 with your computer speeds. Five days isn't long enough to read the heavily larded with lawyerese BS that passes for legislation.

Lolly, you are probably right. I don't know about US computer speeds. I do know that their telephone speeds are up to par.
Computers, telephones, that's not the point.
It's access for the American people.

Amond, you're right, if I only watched the news to get my info I would be a fool. Trouble is, I don't. Putting aside your ignorance as to what you think is an elephant republic, most of my info and opinions come from reading 2 books per week, The Economist magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week magazine and Harvard Business Review.
Try it you might like it.
