Alaska Zoo

Look in the reply for a slideshow of our zoo visit on Wednesday.

Our SIL Chris came over for dinner with Laura tonight and had zoo stories. He works there as a maintenance man. He and a couple other workers did a lot of work with machines to level off the ground at the yak enclosure (see the baby yak in the slideshow) to make it more comfortable for them. They let the yaks into the area, and the yaks tore it up again. I guess they liked it bumpy.

The male camel, kind of a klutzy animal, lay down on his side and got his neck under his fence and didn't realize he could get it out just by bending his neck a certain way. Chris and another worker pushed on the head and the camel screamed. After quite a bit of time the camel was having trouble breathing and they were concerned that his lungs were getting crushed. Some animals can't lie like that for long. Finally a keeper came with some treats and stood at an angle that made the camel think, ooh those look good, and he pulled his neck out and gobbled up the treats. There's a lesson there, isn't there.

Sometimes we need to let things be, don't we? Interesting story about the yak yard. And the camel . . .
Thanks for sharing this series.
