Visiting Our National Parks

I have often dreamed of taking the time to visit all of our national parks in one year. I have only had the opportunity to visit two so far and they were Acadia National Park in Maine and the Everglades in Florida. Just wondering if any other members have had the same dream and I also would like to know which park(s) that they have visited and ones that they still dream of visiting.

I have that dream, RS, of visiting all of our national parks, but not in one year! It's on my bucket list. I have visited some of the parks in the west, such as Yosemite, Yellowstone, Glacier, and the parks in Canada such as Jasper and Banff and Waterton Lakes. I've also been to the Everglades. There are a LOT of national parks ... when I looked at the list once, I was amazed. But I would love to visit the ones on the East Coast, as that is a part of our wonderful country I haven't been to.

I have that dream, but that is all it is going to be is a dream. I wish I could afford to travel all over the United States. I have visited, The Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore.

I can't believe that I forgot to say that I have also visited the Grand Canyon! How I could forget a visit to a place that left me standing in awed silence at its magnificent beauty? Two of my favorite parks to visit would be Yellowstone and Yosemite, and also those wonderful parks in Canada!

This discussion reminded me of Maligne Lake, in Jasper NP. I recommend that everyone visit this sublime place. It really takes your breath away.

I have no desire to visit all the National Parks, but I have that Senior Pass in my wallet and hope to visit many more. This year we added Kitty Hawk and others on the outer islands as well as Harper's Ferry and Antietam. I am not sure of the categorization of the Blue Ridge Parkway, but we drove most of that from its southern end at Cherokee, NC to Roanoke, VA. If I ever figure out how to post pictures in eons again I shall post my collections of cloud covered mountains in GA, NC and VA. We put the Skyline Drive under out belt a couple of times. We also visited the Great Smokies on our trip from FL to MA. In the past we have been to Arcadia a few times and the parks of north east Arizona including both sides of the Grand Canyon and Taroweap which is my all time favorite and sometime avatar. We have stood at the bottoms of the canyon in Zion and looked up in awe as well as at the top of the escarpment at Bryce looking down in awe. I have an overwhelming need for the economy to get better so that I can stand in awe of Denali.

So many opportunities, so little time.

I found the PBS recounting of the history of the national parks a bit tedious, I am not a fan of the talking head technique, but it certainly was educational and I appreciate that part.

peace,
Allen

Sunny...what a gorgeous place!

I think I would love to see Bryce Canyon as well as the Grand Canyon...there are SO many beautiful places in this country that it boggles my mind. I know I'll never get to 99.9% of them but it's sure nice to dream. In the meantime, I enjoy armchair tours by the great photographers here on Eons.

Allen, I'm in and out lately but if you PM me, perhaps I can help you figure out uploading.

Brice for me and Yellowstone. Unfortunately I'm not sure if the parks I've visited are state or national, but have obviously been to Rocky Mountain NP and if Yosemite, Arches and Grand Canyon count, I've been there also.

Would love to go to all the National Parks also but doubt it will happen before I "kick the bucket."

Have been to Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Canyon, and The National Park outside Silver City, New Mexico.

I've been to Rocky Mountain National Park, Olympic, Grand Canyon, and a bunch of smaller ones. If I had to chose one, I dither, hem and haw, but Rocky Mountain would probably be my fav ... so much diversity, so much wilderness, so much majestic (and totally cute) wildlife, and such majestic mountains! You haven't lived unless you've driven Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuously paved road in the world; so high you can see the curvature of the earth. It's also where the Plains Indians used to climb to bury their shamans. One sunrise there and you can see why they thought it was a holy place.

I can't remember offhand, but if the Badlands in S. Dakota are a national park, then ADD THEM TO THE LIST!

Denali is on my bucket list. Our country has so MANY wonderful places!
