Grrrr!

I will be 62 on Nov. 14 and eligible for a deferred CSRS pension (20 Years service). The OPM web site says to send in paperwork 60 days before your 62nd birthday. So I submitted it on Sept. 11. Since I have heard nothing (the web says you will receive a card with a claim # while they check it), I called today. I was told they have the paperwork, but won't do anything until my 62nd birthday! So -- why submit it 60 days early? She said I would get the money - probably by January!
Probably due to the backlog they would encounter if they had wait until you are 62 to send the papaerwork. They don't want to have to pay any extra money like on SS, you'd get retroactive pay from the day you apply.
