Good pick, Salt. As kids, my brother and I would watch this one every time it came on TV. Loved it.
My favorite? Gonna have to think about that.

I loved the old Monster Movies. My personal favorite is The Blob with Steve McQueen - 1958, The diner that was used in that movie is still in use in Pheonixville Pa.
TDTESS is on my list of Top 10 movies, regardless of genre. I would have a hard time calling it a "monster movie" though, unless you consider the actions of most of the humans in it, hehehe
'THEM' starring James Whitmore and James Arness. Directed by Gordon Douglas. Walt Disney watched the movie to check out James Areness for a possible Davy Crocket, but saw Fess Parker in one scene with a western accent and hire him instead.
To get the shot of the little girl walking through the dessert director Douglas walked backwards telling the girl, 'Don't blink, don't blink.' and fell seat ward into a cactus. But it ended up one of the great movie shots as the camera follows the Cessna airplane and moves down to a continuious dolly shot close up of the girl.
Later when she comes back out of silences she screams "Them, THEM."

I knew it was one of Fess Parker's earlier works but didn't know it was what got him the Davy Crockett role. I had read that the producers didn't show the monsters in the trailors and used the unknown to build up suspense before its release.
