My goodness

I was doing a bit of maintenance on my road bike tonight and called up the total miles rode this year and discovered that I had ridden 3016 miles this year. What a shock, I had no idea I had ridden that many miles. It's no wonder I wore out a perfectly good Continental rear tire this year. That's not counting the miles on my mountain bike which wasn't that many....but they sure seem to mount up. For a weekend warrior, I didn't think that too shabby. I believe I'll replace the chain...it's done enough. I also think maybe I'll take the bike into the LBS for a thorough lube and check up while I'm at it. I don't like to get into lubing sealed bearings like I have on all the moving parts on my bike, but my dealer says it's best to lube them once in a while even though they're sealed. So I'll let him do it. It'll probably cost less than if I botched it.

3,016 miles and the year's not over yet. That's a lot of miles for someone who just rides on the weekends mostly. Good for you Riki. BTW, what is the best way to to know when to take the bike in for a check up? Should it be done based on the total amount of miles ridden or (like a car) based on the passage of time .... like every year for instance?

I usually have it checked over in the off season, that way come Spring, it's ready to go again. This weekend will probably mark the last road ride of the year....it's starting to get cold here now, I might sneak in a couple of late afternoon rides, but it's really pretty much mountain biking season from now on. It's 40 degrees here as I write this morning, and the skinny road bike gets too cold.

Rik I was so happy to get your report. There was a blockage on my eons profile line. It was almost two hours with constant attempts. I had a good connection to the internet, too. That was a great year's trailing. I had a meet with one of the Florida Senior Games sites yesterday.

You should give yourself a big pat on the back. 3K miles for 3 season weekend riding is pretty good. I can't seem to carve out that kind of time on the bike to get that kind of number in. Although I have got in some miles this last month, motivated to get some miles,in order to break-in that new Brooks saddle to my nether regions....lol!
